I'm rooted, so I made a change so I won't even get notified for now. There are too many problems - some browsers and apps can't do text reflow and no browser can use flash anymore. Too many websites still use flash instead of html5 and if the text won't reflow I won't be able to even read anything on most websites. I saw other complaints about the stock email app and some video apps. |

Isn't it generally considered unwise to upgrade to an x.0 release? You essentially are Google's/Apple's/somebody's guinea pig to fix all the things that are sure to not be working right in a brand-new rewrite of various functionalities.

I'm pretty sure the only option I had was a statement that basically said, "Click to restart your Nexus 7.2 and install Android 4.4." One option equals no option to opt out in this case. It was more like a statement that like it or not you are getting 4.4. I didn't try hitting the back button. Perhaps that would have worked for a short time, but I suspect that reminders would have been often an annoying until it finally updated.

I should also trawl the N7 2013 forums on XDA to find the best ROM for USB Audio. |

That's interesting. I woke his tablet from sleep to see what it had on the notification bar. I wonder if it's because our tablets are always rooted? I know with my 2012 Nexus I even rebooted while the message was there and it didn't update.

I was under the impression there was a backup/recovery method one used just prior to rooting. There was, at least, when I rooted my last Galaxy S. |

I know from experience now to root right away so I didn't look for a way to backup. There are a few root toolkits out there that may save your data - I know Mskip and Wugfresh both have them so you could try to look for those.

Loss of data won't be an issue on my Nexus 7.2, but it might well become one on my S4, which I have to root to avoid getting KNOX with the Samsung KitKat rollout. I'll have a look at Mskip and Wugfresh. Rooting my N7.2 will be my dress rehearsal for rooting the S4. Last edited by Prestidigitweeze; 11-24-2013 at 03:52 PM. |

I updated mine very reluctantly rather than have the touch to install notification always there(no doubt it would be accidently pressed at some point anyway) so I'd say there is pretty much no choice in the matter.
Lost Gsam Battery monitor pro and deep sleep battery saver pro which I'm not happy about to be honest although from reading about kit kat I knew this beforehand, apparently google removed the ability for users to see wakelock information so it won't be possible to work out which app is ruining your battery anymore (usually a google one I tend to find so I find this removal rather dare I say evil and not to the users benefit). First time I didn't really want to upgrade in truth everything else seems to be working ok but I feel rather sour about the whole thing if I'm honest I'm probably likely to skip Nexus devices in the future. |

I'm not updating to 4.3 on my S3 right now because of the KNOX crap either. I'll wait for the xda folks to do their magic first. |
