And yet when someone says they don't want to buy a touch screen you accuse them of being amazon cultists for not recognizing the obvious upgrade and you don't have to use it if you don't want to and etc. etc.
![]() I think we can all agree at this point that Touch Screen = Better is a subjective issue. Back on topic. ![]() |

Don't be a complete ignoramus? You have already been incorrect on my not having children. And, now you are incorrect in what I've been saying all along. When on earth did I bash someone for not wanting to BUY ONE? I bashed them for claiming that it wasn't an upgrade. Whether you find use for it or not is up to you. But, objectively, it is an upgrade. Period. That is NOT debatable. The technology itself is an upgrade.
You might want to re-read all this, as reading comprehension is CLEARLY not your strong suit. Do NOT put words in my mouth. I don't appreciate it, especially when it's coming from someone of a clearly very limited intelligence such as yourself. I've pointed out NUMEROUS times that the only subjective thing about it is whether or not you, personally, find use for it, however, the fact that it's there (versus NOT being there), is objectively an upgrade. I like everything about the new nook features wise, but the form factor for it is kind of ugly. Either way, I'm still very happy with my original nook so I'll stick with it for the time being. I'm just glad B&N is still updated the eink line. I was worried they might put all the resources into just the nook color.

However, it still doesn't solve the organization problem. Even the online library gets darned cumbersome to find stuff in once one has hit 400+ books. (I haven't even owned the device a year yet!) Why the heck that isn't searchable I don't know! |

I think that is accurate. Now that we've gotten word definitions out of the way, the question becomes whether or not it's an improvement to the experience. Obviously that is not a matter for 'debate' so much as a discussion involving the expression of opinions. At this point I gravitate towards the "no-touch" crowd, but my experience with touchscreen e-ink readers is limited so for now I can't make a solid judgement. |

Agreed, and EXTREMELY well put. If those on here that seem to be expressing their opinions as facts, were this well spoken, there would be no problems whatsoever. As for the touch thing. You HAVE to try the Sony X50 series readers. Once you do, I'm fairly certain you would change your mind. The neat thing is that, depending on how you happen to be holding it, while you read, at any given time, sometimes it's easier to swipe the page to turn, and other times it's easier to press the button. I absolutely promise you that there is NO fingerprint issue, no dust, nothing at all. I couldn't be happier, although, I fully recognize that my personal preference towards a touch screen is just that...a personal preference (even if it is a preference that is shared by the overwhelming majority). And, I would guess that those who prefer these readers without the touch screen likely have no/limited experience with the newer generation and are likely thinking that there is an issue with fingerprints, etc. You will be pleasantly surprised, as I feel that shortly (with the next gen Kindles), those who would prefer no touch screen at all, are going to be left with no options but to buy one with a touch screen, as all ereaders will likely have them, probably as soon as the next gen Kindles. |

One of the main issues for me, concerning the Color was the touch screen and I am glad I waited as I have found it is even worse to use than I expected. I guess I am a Luddite in some aspects, but I will never consider a touch screen an improvement, just something different. I don't care for it at all on my Nook and I thought I would adapt but it just got more annoying. Ah well, good reason to get a spare Kindle if they seem to be going that way as well. |

You know, as I look at all the features they removed from the new Nook ( 3G, Web browser, MP3 player, landscape mode, text size adjustment) and I look at their perilous financial situation, I think I have this model figured out. They needed to make a cheaper stripped down model in order to look better to a perspective buyer (company buyer not Nook customer). The articles in the WSJ would support this and their discontinuance of the current 3G model makes sense if they are not profitable, especially if their ebook sales are not profitable enough to offset the loss of profits for the hardware. The thousands of "refurb" units they dumped on the market at cut rate prices also fits.
Just conjecture. Last edited by chas0039; 05-29-2011 at 01:36 PM. |
