iPad New iPad B&N eReader version out

Now has brightness control in app. It says it has two page view, but I can't figure out how to do that. If anyone figures it out, please post where the setting is. Thanks!

Thanks for the heads up. Two-page kicks in if you rotate your iPad to horizontal.

Is your screen locked? Lock/unlock button is on upper-right, above volume controls.

Tried that, too, still no luck...not the end of the world, but I do prefer that view!

I cannot find a way to change the setting, but I can tell you that some of the themes I have available are set to two columns, and some are not. Mocha, for instance, uses two columns and Butter Pecan does not. My wife is the one that normally uses B&N, so I don't know that those are standard themes, but judging from the names, I am going to assume they are.

So you might have to start with a different theme and re-customize the colors to your liking.

Hmm. Just tried a handful of books, without changing themes. Looks as if some switch to two-page and some don't. Dunno what's the difference among books that would indicate which will display on two pages.

Thanks for the info. I didn't realize that different themes and different combos of font/size changed that. It still seems like there should just be a setting for that, but I can find a combo that works for me. I appreciate your help!

You might consider e-mailing B&N about improving the two-page function. Some of us did that with the separate brightness setting. They probably listen to feedback. You can find a link on the B&N site. If you send feedback there, they will get it to the right people.

I prefer portrait reading. Otherwise, I would contact 'em about the two-page layout.

I think two column viewing is directly tied to the font size. It seems that if the font is bigger than a specific size (to which I don't know at this time) then two column view will not be available.

The books I tried two-page layout on were all set to my default size (B&N's smallest), though. I just opened a bunch of books without adjusting anything, and some showed on two pages, some not.

Does the new version still have the bug where if you specify a font, you lose true font styles and get simulated font styles?

Does anyone know if you can open up Mobileread eBooks in this app? It doesn't show up on the list when downloading an epub file.

If you use the next to smallest font size or the smallest font size the two page view will work. Anything larger and it goes to one page view. The two page view, in my opinion, doesn't look as nice as the iBooks two page view. But, it is nice to see B&N working to improve the app. The in-app brightness control works well.

Now if B&N will work on improving the number of e-Books it offers they may start to give Amazon a run for, at least, my money.

Update: In addition to font size, font type can make a difference in the ability to see the new two page view in the B&N reader. Only 3 of the font types work for two page view with the next to smallest font size. Also the theme you choose impacts the ability to use the two page view. One very nice feature is the ability to choose the spacing between the lines. this really helps with the smaller font sizes.
