So how's that new/old camera working out? Are you liking it as much as the old one? You said it seemed in better condition. How is it now that you've had a chance to play around with it?
And did that cute little gray jumping spider ever come back?

It works as well as the old one-- I catch myself not even thinking about it being a different camera than I've used for the past 8 years. It has a problem with the pop-up flash sporadically not working, but my old camera had that problem, too. Some googling showed that it is a common problem with the model-- so common that the needed replacement part is sold on Ebay. But rather than crack open the new camera, I found a third-party external flash for the F707 (originally around $140, on clearance for 10 bucks) and have ordered one of those. (The F707 doesn't use a plain "hot-shoe"-- it has a data port to plug the flash into the camera so that there is TTL metering.)

I've mentioned before, the secret to looking like a great photographer is to take lots and lots of photos-- and never show anyone most of them. Treat photography like surgery: bury your mistakes.

I've upped a few more CP photos earlier today, to be found here:

In a couple, I've been playing around with IR "night vision" mode. I've yet to order filters to allow me to use the mode at day (need to block all "normal" light and most IR) but I can still, of course, do it at night. I was wondering if any colorations would show up in IR that aren't in the human-visible range, but everything was pure white. (I know that color differences would be more likely to show up in UV, but I have no way to capture UV.)

No. This guy showed up, but I'm betting you won't place him in the "cute" column.

Those are great shots. The "Sarracenia purpetrator full of flies" is awesome. No home should be without one!

This one could be titled "Sex and Death."

Disagree. . I find it quite cute. I tend to find the Funnelwebs and Trapdoors and Redbacks and Garden Spiders and St Andrews Cross Spiders to be less than cute (pretty in their own way though), but this one looks like a right cutey. Very nice capture again, ardeegee.

Cheers,
Marc

I would put these guys in the pretty rather than cute category. They're huge, harmless, and fun to play with. I've posted this gal (?) before, but I think she's lovely.

The new flash I mentioned arrived yesterday, and I've been experimenting with it. As I mentioned, the camera's shoe isn't "hot", and the data connection with the camera is via a cable-- said cable is around 8 or 10 inches, giving me some play to hold the flash in one hand and move it around to different positions with the other.

Technically this shot is a screw-up in the positioning of the flash in front of the camera, but I like it, darn it!
