kennyc reminded me (on another thread) about past flooding and coastal submersions.
This information is out there, but the events were so far in the past that nobody cares about it. But for those that give 2 hoots - Lunchtime Conference - submerged prehistoric landscapes "The sea has already risen by an average of 135 metres since the end of the last ice age 20000 years ago. Shell middens testify to the fact that humans have always found a good living by the sea-shore and over 3000 submerged prehistoric human occupation sites are now known and mapped on the European continental shelf, from the shoreline out to a depth of 145m." Submerged Prehistoric Archaeology and Landscapes of the Continental Shelf (End date: May 2013) "For most of human history on the European continent over the past one million years, sea levels have persisted at levels lower than present by as much as 130m, creating extensive coastal and lowland landscapes attractive to human settlement. Between 16,000 and 6000 years, most of this territory was drowned by rapid sea level rise from -130m, following the last Ice Age, " Please note 2 things - "most of this territory was drowned by rapid sea level rise" AND the "rapid sea level rise ...." it talks about is "Between 16,000 and 6000 years ....". Grid makes a SPLASH in underwater archaeology "Up to 3.2 million square kilometers of the European continental shelf (about 40 per cent of Europe’s land mass) was exposed as dry land during the periods of lower sea level that persisted throughout the Ice Ages." ![]() Lets not forget that things CAN get colder. The Little Ice Age, Ca. 1300 - 1870 "The Little Ice Age is a period between about 1300 and 1870 during which Europe and North America were subjected to much colder winters than during the 20th century." "There was a slightly warmer period in the 1500s, after which the climate deteriorated substantially." Things go up, and things go down. And we run around like Chicken Little. ![]() (No offence intended, poobear.) There have been climate changes in the past. Nothing we could do would have stopped them. And remember the time interval- the "rapid sea level rise" it talks about was "Between 16,000 and 6000 years ....". |

When I was in grade school, all the talk was that another Ice Age was imminent. That was a 'fact' and we could do nothing about it.
![]() Whew! I guess we dodged THAT bullet. ![]() But then again we used to have 'bomb drills' that consisted of marching out of your classroom and into the hall, putting one forearm in front of your head, the other behind your head and leaning forward against the wall. ![]() This maneuver was meant to protect you from a nuclear blast in case of attack (back in the 50s.) ![]() |

The scientific community also stated that acid rain was indeed a fact and going to kill us all. Maybe the acid rain and the ice age canceled each other out?
Maybe all of the killer bees can negate the global warming? |

Fallen Angels by Jerry Pournelle, Larry Niven and Michael Flynn
Free at webscription.net I had completely forgotten about this book. I read it a long time ago so it may will be dated. Synopsis "That government, dedicated to saving the environment from the evils of technology, had been voted into power because everybody knew that the Green House Effect had to be controlled, whatever the cost. But who would have thought that the cost of ending pollution would include not only total government control of day-to-day life, but the onset of a new Ice Age " |

Yeah, we could breed a bovine that eats meat, that way they would not need the twelve or so stomachs they use to digest plant material.
Wait... We need a source of meat for that... How about chickens? We could breed a meat eating chicken to feed to the meat eating bovines... Wait... Dammit! |

We all love Jacques Cousteau, right. He cared about the planet. He was also concerned about its people.
And we do have to save the planet, don't we? What follows is from an interview appearing in the November 1991 UNESCO Courier. I would like to point to that edition but the UNESCO Courier didn't think that it was of any interest. Some web sites say that it doesn't exist. You can, however, read it by going to Access my Library. If you only see a small part of the article you may have to register, and find a library with the article in it's system, to read it. The link works for me though. * Some snakes, mosquitoes and other animal species pose threats or dangers for humankind. Can they be eliminated like the viruses that cause certain diseases? "-- Getting rid of viruses is an admirable idea, but it raises enormous problems. In the first 1,400 years of the Christian era, population numbers were virtually stationary. Through epidemics, nature compensated for excess births by excess deaths. I talked about this problem with the director of the Egyptian Academy of Sciences. He told me that scientists were appalled to think that by the year 2080 the population of Egypt might reach 250 million. What should we do to eliminate suffering and disease? It's a wonderful idea but perhaps not altogether a beneficial one in the long run. If we try to implement it we may jeopardize the future of our species. It's terrible to have to say this. World population must be stabilized and to do that we must eliminate 350,000 people per day. This is so horrible to contemplate that we shouldn't even say it. But the general situation in which we are involved is lamentable." PS- MAKE UP ANY EMAIL ADDRESS TO REGISTER WITH "Access my Library" TO READ THE ARTICLE. More on how to protect the Earth (an thereby stop Global Warming)
How far will some go to stop global warming? Lets read a book. What do you say?
Ecoscience: Population, Resources, Environment on Amazon. Co-written by President Obama's "science czar" John Holdren. Sorry, no e version. This review is from a D. Wiliams and may seem a little negative. But YOU can be the first person to give it a "GOOD" review "The ideas in this book came from the practices of Nazi Eugenics doctors, Soviet political commissars, and most importantly, the pit of hell. Here are some of the things these nuts are suggesting governments do. Forcibly and unknowingly sterilizing the entire population by adding infertility drugs to the nation's water and food supply. - Legalizing "compulsory abortions," ie forced abortions carried out against the will of the pregnant women, as is common place in Communist China where women who have already had one child and refuse to abort the second are kidnapped off the street by the authorities before a procedure is carried out to forcibly abort the baby. - Babies who are born out of wedlock or to teenage mothers to be forcibly taken away from their mother by the government and put up for adoption. Another proposed measure would force single mothers to demonstrate to the government that they can care for the child, effectively introducing licensing to have children. - Implementing a system of "involuntary birth control," where both men and women would be mandated to have an infertility device implanted into their body at puberty and only have it removed temporarily if they received permission from the government to have a baby. - Permanently sterilizing people who the authorities deem have already had too many children or who have contributed to "general social deterioration". - Formally passing a law that criminalizes having more than two children, similar to the one child policy in Communist China. - This would all be overseen by a transnational and centralized "planetary regime" that would utilize a "global police force" to enforce the measures outlined above. The "planetary regime" would also have the power to determine population levels for every country in the world." |
