Today I spent 2 hrs out in bright sunshine & had no problem reading with sunglasses on. It really isn't that difficult to keep the reader from having the reflection of the sun right on it.

That would entirely depend on where in the world you reside. Sunny Perth days, even in winter are very bright.

Right here now it is a bright sunny day around 17 deg C. Sunglasses are a must, even today.

I could not see the display of my smartphone even with sunglasses on whilst waiting my turn at the coffee van parked at the work carpark.

Well in Australia you really shouldn't be hanging out in the sun long enough to read, anyway! XD Far too hot and dangerous. Under trees is nice, if you can find a comfortable one that's not covered in ants.

Or those dreaded drop bears

I prefer to be in aircon comfort during summer months for all the reasons I mentioned above!

Never had a magpie chase me but I have had cat birds and blue jays chase me.

Even here in the US I don't sit out in the full sun but stay in the shade and I still find that my eInk screens are far better than any LCD (including the iPad) for reading. JMO, of course.

Australian Magpies are not the same as the ones in the Northern Hemisphere. This is our devil bird, and they're decidedly evil in spring.

Yeah I don't tend to walk very far anytime near nesting season, I was attacked four times in three years ><

Though one I did smack with a book I was holding at the time.

They attack anyone that goes too close to the nest, which can be a hundred feet away if it's especially paranoid... though some don't attack.

Sadly, apparently we do.

They are very clan (family) orientated. We live opposite a park in leafy Applecross/Mt Pleasant by the Swan River and there are 4 clans around our house. Only one clan is aggressive and attacked our youngest daughter. That was several years ago now and I have not heard of any more attacks.

Council Rangers here take a dim view of maggies that swoop to much.

Regardless, my favourite place to read is in our lounge room with a suitable beverage

I go out more in winter and autumn than the rest of the year. But year, maggies generally are a bit clannish. Though I'd estimate my street/block has at least a hundred or a hundred and fifty of the things that hang around here.
