Urban foxes. Used to living in towns and cities and entirely unafraid of humans.
Unlike urbane foxes, who are very polite and well-mannered. Last edited by pdurrant; 07-01-2010 at 03:22 AM. Reason: couldn't resist the urbane joke |

I guess here we are getting urban coyotes and not so much the urban fox. coyotes are VERY bold. there is a reason they are given the role of trickster in most Tribal stories!

I live 45 minutes from work. I leave work early and get drive back to my town and then get a phone call. My buddy is stuck and needs a tow. Since I have AAA I drive 45 minutes again to go rescue him. After all is said and done I drive 45 minutes back home. I have to use the bathroom bad.
I stop at a local gas station liquor store to buy a pack of gum. I go inside and head for the bathroom. The lady behind the counter says to me in a very rude tone "someone is in there." So I buy my gum and then go to the restroom. I come out and dry my hands on my shirt since they did not have any paper towels in the bathroom. The lady tells me to quit being a smart ass. I tell her that I am not being a smart ass I was simply drying my hands on my shirt like I do at home because they were out of towels. She tells me I was being a smart ass again and then starts arguing with me over the incident. ---------- |

I did leave after about a minute of putting up with her. I do not normally leave anything when confronted, especially when I'm in the right.
I did however refrain from calling her the B word and did leave once I realized that there was no getting through to her. |

It's not that I put the dogs above any humans they may or may not attack, but I'm sick and tired of the weapon (be it dogs, knives, guns, whatever) being criminalised rather than trying to deal with the root cause. And I am fully aware that some breeds have been bred for decades to be aggressive, or at least protective. In the UK, for example, there are various laws which make it a criminal offence to kill or seriously injure somebody. But as soon as somebody gets killed or seriously injured by by things like knives, guns, dogs etc there is a cry amongst a certain portion of the population to ban whatever the weapon was. It doesn't stop crime, and it seems to mostly affect generally law abiding citizens. Take knives, for example. I can carry a small (blade 3" or less), non-locking folding knife without any particular reason. However, if I want to carry a locking knife with the same size blade, I need to have a good reason for doing so, and "not wanting the knife to close on my fingers whilst I'm cutting fruit" is not a good reason unless you have a medical condition that makes it more likely this will happen. Heck, knives and guns have become so vilified in the UK in certain quarters that even carrying a legal knife or saying you go target shooting with an air pistol can get you odd looks and hysterical reactions. Right. *looks around sheepishly, gets off soapbox* Well, it is the vent and rant thread... Quote:

I think 90% of the problem with pit bulls is the owners. They are the dog of choice for macho types who consider them an extension of their manhood. All too often the people drawn to this breed are themselves aggressive, inconsiderate, and arrogant; and like all dogs, theirs pick up the traits of their owners.
Pit Bulls are not by any means the most likely dogs to bite, but because they are so powerful, when they do bite, folks tend to stay bitten. It doesn't help that there are swaggering and often negligent owners desperately compensating for their own insecurities actively encouraging the worst behavior of which the breed is capable. How many stories have you read of pit bull attacks, and when the police arrive they find the animal chained in the back yard with no water? |
