Why is this "Child Abuse?"
It is legal to grow pot if you have a license to do so.

Hmmm......
A bit like claiming exposing your kid to rock music is child abuse.....or exposure to second hand smoke is child abuse.... Judicial system out of control if you ask me.... I know, I know, you didn't ask...

I can see why allowing children to be around a controlled substance could be considered putting them at risk but at the same time if a family farm grows tobacco that isn't child abuse. Grandma having her pills in the medicine cabinet isn't child abuse.
It might be about time to admit that children aren't made of glass nor are they sacred objects to be protected from everything at all costs. Giving drugs to children = bad. Taking drugs near children = probably bad, bad in my mind anyway. Having a meth lab in the house = bad. Just having the plants.... is this really any more dangerous than having a poisonous houseplant? Any more dangerous than kitchen knives and by the way the stove is hot? I'm not pro-pot, I'm not anti-pot. I really don't care about it beyond finding stoners annoying. This arrest though while well meaning strikes me more as nanny state than practical law for the public good. |

I dunno, strictly speaking I imagine most parents could get called for child abuse at some point (cue Philip Larkin's 'This be the verse')
.But the story says the police were called to a report of domestic violence, they probably won't get any witnesses to support that accusation, and may think resorting to the pot growing charge is the best chance of getting the children out of a chaotic environment. |

In the US you cant even smack your kid's hand after he (edit: or she...feminist.
) destroys a supermarket without someone calling you in for child abuse.

Not unless you burn it.
Technically the kids could eat it (blegh!) and get some effects (though not as much as when you cook or burn it), but a kid could also eat a poinsettia at Christmas time and get sick. |

Geez thats so lame. That is not child abuse...unless they caught the parents smoking MJ in front of their children where the kids could inhale the smoke too.
