I've been better about my e-books than my p-books lately. My poetry books are a mess!!

I hate Secure Microsoft Reader format. It can't be downloaded except using Internet Explorer on Windows, and it can't be bulk downloaded.

I'm also not fond of Adobe Secure ePub format. It can be downloaded on Macintosh, but only one by one, not in bulk.

Luckily I only have 8 of one and 35 of the other on my Fictionwise bookshelf (which I'm re-downloading just in case I've mis-laid my copy of any of them).

In comparison, the 42 secure eReader and the Secure Mobipocket were relatively simple to download. And the umpteen multiformat titles even easier.

I also wish Fictionwise wasn't being slowly killed. But since it is, they might at least be up-front about things and announce a closing date.

I just want to complain about the quality of the rants on this thread. This is not how you rant. You got a gripe, get it out! Yell! Scream! Swear, for Pete's sake. This ain't ranting, it's a low moan.
I've used more obscene hand gestures at toddlers.

And I am frickin' sick and tired of being forced to use kiddy curses.

I've been spending part of today doing ebook housekeeping.

My master library is on the desktop, in an ebooks directory on Drive C that is currently just under 16GB in size. That's not all ebooks: it includes various forms of ebook creations and viewer software, plus distribution archives for same, and work-in-progress directories on conversion efforts. The actual books occupy about 11GB. Organization is by category, like Art, Childrens, Fiction, History, Literature, Mysteries, Non-fiction, Philosophy, and SF, with directories below mostly by author, in Last name, First Name format, and directories below each author for individual books. By preference, I get content in HTML format and convert, but I can read just about anything.

The fun area is the SF category, as there are separate sections for books from the Baen Free Library, Tor, and elsewhere, and the same author may have books in more than one section. Since NTFS lets me use links and junctions, I'm starting to apply them, so that going to a directory for a particular author will have entries for all of the books I have by that author, even if they span categories. There will be one copy of the book, and pointers to it. It's also useful with Baen, who publishes a lot of collaborations - David Weber and Eric Flint, Eric Flint and David Drake, John... Ringo and everybody... A lot of today was spent creating cross-links so book appeared in both collaborator's directories.

Finding individual books is eased by an open source tool called Locate32, that creates a database of files and folders on my drives. Searching for content in the files is done via Google Desktop. The trick to maintenance on stuff like this is doing it regularly.

On my PC, books are stored all over the place, but mostly in my Books folder where they are unorganized.

Maybe it's because collections (folders) are new to the Kindle and to me, but I only made four folders for the Kindle: To Be Read, Samples, Finished reading, and Miscellaneous. The books I'm currently reading are not in a Collection. Simple things for simple minds. The Miscellaneous folder on my Kindle contains mostly tech manuals and user guides.

I have one big unorganized ebook directory with everything thrown in (sometimes even with appropriate names ).

Duplicate of sorts in Calibre that arranges by author..

What the fark is going on?

A 6 year old girl was attacked in Westchester County, a suburb of New York City, by two coyotes yesterday! In her yard! In broad daylight!

First it's bears, now it's coyotes.
The undeveloped parts of this country had better get their acts together!
Or we start shipping you our cab drivers. We mean it!

I have a similar mess with Drawings, Digital Paintings, Photos, Reference Photos, etc...

After finishing my latest painting and due to your inspiration, I'm in the process of re-organizing all the above. The thing is that being the "not happy unless I have three back up copies" -- I'm having to sort-of re-organize multiple times.

Almost there though.

Not funny.

If the damn things are out in daylight, does it mean they're rabid?
