New jetbook lite firmware 15g

I noticed it on the jetbook ftp site. No idea what the changes are:

Yeah I backtracked from the incorrect link ectaco sent out in their email unfortunately I can't load new firmware on my jbl. The first 2 jbl's had to be sent back for hanging on the logo screen. This 3rd one its impossible to load firmware on. I guess I will stick with 15d until it dies again and then turn it into its natural function, a paperweight. The hardware for the jbl is pretty good. A real pity they can't seem to get the software out of the gutter and their tech support is so hopeless.

Well I flashed to the JBL 0.15g, and all seems well, so far. I don't have any idea what
might have changed, it seems the same as the 0.15 I had running before. I did notice
that it's on Patch v16 now, as well.

Luck;

According to their email, it's supposed to have the same epub drm as the current regular Jetbook firmware. Haven't loaded it on our Lite yet, but will do so shortly..

Wow, that would be neat, but didn't that include epub TOC?
I did try to check for epub TOC functioning but it did'nt appear to be there.

What else should I be looking for?

In the link provided by OP, I see the following file:

Lite_0.15g.exe

Is this what I need to update my JBL's firmware? And how do I update using this file? Yes, I've read the instructions for updating the firmware, but the reason I'm asking is that the instructions at the jetBook website are for a different set of files altogether which are contained in a zip file.

Right, that .exe file is a self-extracting zip file. Run it and it will give you
the option of where to extract the needed folders to. It is best to extract
to a new folder on one of your local hard drives. Then just "select all" the
contents of that folder to drag and drop into your SD card.

Edited to add: No I don't! I was able to extract it with wine. Now to reflash...

Thanks!

Bookmarked that site also, looks like a better one than the one I had.

I'm not sure what version they are using between the different hardware, but I can confirm that the new JBL firmware does NOT do TOC's on epubs. I just don't get the reasoning to not put the same versions on both devices, I would think that would be a no-brainer...

You would think so. Perhaps since they're just calling this a beta release the final released firmware will in fact include TOC's in epubs. Downloading this firmware for DRM support for epubs is really a waste of time since the first thing most of us do when we purchase an ebook is remove the DRM so we truly "own" our purchase. Anyone who doesn't see a reason to remove DRM from their ebook purchases need only google the words "George Orwell 1984 kindle".

If anyone finds anything new other than the epub DRM support with the 15g firmware please let us know. Otherwise this upgrade is not really worth the time to download.

Given Ectaco's earlier partnership with B&N, I was wondering if the "epub DRM support"
might be for the version that B&N is using? If so, does it also support the more widespread ADE epub DRM?

I don't have any of these types of DRM infected files to do any testing on, or I could
test it out, (maybe not for the way some of them are linked to a device).

Maybe it is for a "credit card type" of DRM for the epub?

Luck;
Ken

Could someone please verify that the new firmware supports Adobe DRM support? A checked out library epub would be a good test.

I may have done something wrong I don't know but when I load a book from the Sony Reader Store(The Whiskey Rebels) as well as a book from my local library(Dead Until Dark) both show the title name but only one blank page as the content.

I installed the new firmware but I couldn't find any settings for pdf reflow (one of the indications that this has Adobe DE software). Also, ePub books look exactly the same. I wonder whether this firmware really has ePub DRM and other things...
