Well, if you believe the email Plastic Logic sent out recently, the Que may still come out in the future. They still seem excited about releasing it, but maybe want to regroup after this week's events.

The longer they wait, the more irrelevant the Que will be when finally released.

Stick a fork in them, they are done.

Yeah, I do believe they lost a lot of their main supporters when they canceled all the pre-orders. If the irrelevance doesn't get em, their reputation for not delivering will. Man..

PL is just Irex recycled. Lots of promises, great PR, delay, delay, alienate your consumer base, etc. The only difference is that Irex did this earlier when they could mask their business debacles by having a niche in which they were one of the only players. Once the competition heated up in the large-sized ereader market, they started heading downhill fast, and the iPad was just the last nail in their coffin. Plastic Logic is repeating all these same mistakes, but they're being destroyed before they even get a product put the door because they're not able to cover up their business ineptitude with an unfilled niche. A $700 black and white ereader with low refresh, etc., stacked up next to something like the iPad? Uh, yeah, that's going to sell well... NOT. The Que and the Skiff have been basically dead since Apple announced the iPad, they just took a few months to admit it.

I'd be real interested to know how Amazon's DX has been selling the last few months. Any ereader priced anywhere close to the iPad is likely having extreme sales pressure at the moment, and will remain so until eink turns color with refresh rates at least in the low 20fps range. Now that would be an interesting alternative...

Oh crap, another bloody iPad comparison .

You know what? I've been thinking of buying a new car, but then there's this iPad and I'm thinking to myself is it really worth it? After all, I mean, iPad is out, what are those car people thinking ?
Get with the program people.

I came here to say exactly that, PL missed their window and they probably won't get another chance.

There's plenty of room in the market for larger, business, eInk screens. But the backer is going to be a company who can get a decent production volume, a larger player...

And the DX is selling as well as it ever did. Unsurprisingly. (If eInk matters to you, it matters, and IPS is not OLED)

Interesting. Since Amazon has consistently refused to provide sales figures for any of their readers, it would be fascinating to know how you came by this highly privileged information...

The Kindle DX is currently #11 in Electronics sales at Amazon. I don't know if this is as good as ever, but it has to represent a significant volume of sales.

Exactly, relative sales position

No, it's not sales figures, but it's pretty good.

Assuming they are not manipulating the sales rank to boost sales. Since they don't tell us how many DX's they sell, we have no way of knowing if the sales rank is truthful.

The best indication the public will have of how well the DX sells is pricing. If they keep the $489 price in the face of severe competition from iPad and all the forthcoming tablets, then there must be a sufficiently large market, even if it is a tiny niche in the big picture, to make at least one large e-ink reader economically viable at a price tag that puts it in direct competition with lcd devices that render pages faster, and in color, and can do a hundred things that the DX does not.

I'm betting they drop the price considerably.

Actually, the price dropping might be due to the fact that the screens are becoming cheaper, so that's not indicative either.

And um, you just accused a publically traded company of major fraud.

I don't think it amounts to major fraud, but deceptive tactics, sure. Publicly traded companies don't engage in deceptive tactics?

Your point about screens is noted.
