I agree with needing a radio while I drive. I also don't have radio or TV on at home --- but there is usually a book plastered in front of my face!

Moonlight is the coolest. I love a clear sky with a full moon to gaze at!

definetly need the radio driving!

the moon is incredibly cool here. I can practically read outside when it is full and there is no cloud cover

I'm 100% New Yorker.
Where da rats is wildlife and de only boids are pigeons.
And it only got dark during blackouts.
I used to get in trouble as a kid keeping my roomlight on and reading when I had insomnia. Until I realized that if I closed my eyes and counted to 20, when I opened them I could read by the streetlight across the street from my window!

yes the country is beautiful... unless you have to work it. I used to hate it when my father forced me to harrow the fields while I'd much rather stay inside and read.

aaah... childhood memories... a curse on them.

I, having grown up on a farm in an open reservation, hate farms.

I prefer the city. Or at least, towns with 4-digit populations.

On another note, someone sent me an email today complaining about how my website is driven by javascript. They don't use javascript.

I'm amazed people that turn off JS still exist. It's not 2000, and you can check my code yourself you damned... person.
The advantages of using JS are so innumerable... If you're so worried about security that you think JS is a risk, you should really just unplug your internet. >

I grew up on a farm too. I liked it at the time, moved to the city to work for years and now we have a small country place and split our time between there and the city. On balance I prefer the country, though the city is okay. I like the quiet, the way it gets dark at night (and I can see the stars) and I like to be able to look out the window and see the sheep.

I like small towns for star gazing, definately. Usually though, I'll just head up into the mountains instead, with the good old 6-inch telescope. I'm committed.

The doctor thinks it might just be stress... I'm not convinced, but he pointed out that a week of rest would probably help, regardless... and he had a point. So I'll rest, as much as I'm able, and eat well and try to look after myself, and see if that actually helps. It's almost guaranteed not to make things worse (since I'm not on House and, to my knowledge, don't have lupus

). My boss is unimpressed, but wisely said nothing that would have required grumpiness on my part. It's a bad time to be taking leave, but... well, that's part of the issue, isn't it? Stress + stress + tight deadlines + lots of work = half-dead Nomie.

I know there are a few people I owe responses to - hopefully y'all will give me a bit of leeway

Have a good rest, nomesque, and don't think about anything at all. Just relax, it's obvious you need it. Soothing music, and a good book. See you when you feel better

Your body suffers from stress before your mind does. The little shots of adrenalin it is subjected to are harmful in the long run.

you have to take care of the caretaker to ensure a safe and healthy family. get you together, spoil yourself, long hot baths, quiet reads with a cuppa or a glass of wine, comfort food, and so on.
