About to go sit in a park and reserve a table and grill area for daughter's birthday party.
I have to sit there for an hour hanging out or the table will not be available. |

You have to sit there and reserve it like someone holding a parking spot, shooing away any potential rivals, or you are waiting to reserve the spot and time from some type of warden-like person?

The first one. It fills up quickly.
EVERYONE goes 45 minutes to 1 hour early and holds their spot at that park. I even had a couple people show up asking me what time my party was going to be over. 2 years ago I think I almost had the cops called on me. I went about an hour early and sat there alone and waited bored out of my mind. I didnt have an ereader then to keep my company. I sat there and waited on a picnic table. I should have filled the bench with party supplies, which I left in the car. I didnt really feel like taking it all out yet. There was another kid party about 50 feet away and a couple adults was pointing at me thinking I was sitting there watching their kids. I was a lone man sitting on a bench across from their party. I was sooo glad when my wife and the 20 kids showed up and rescued me. They are lucky I didnt go over there and ask them why the hell they pointed at me and gave me the stink eye. *shrug* I gave them a break because I realize they were just scared for their kids. Most uncomfortable 45 minutes of my life. |

In any case, I know you were relieved when your wife showed up. That's the reason I don't go to toy stores or visit toy departments without my wife by my side. Even if people aren't thinking that, it's so often in the news and television shows that you think they are, and that's an uncomfortable feeling. |

On the other hand, did you ever notice that the parents who are most intently keeping an eye on you are the ones whose kids are playing in traffic?

The most frequent offenders in sexual molestation cases are family members...
Uncle Dick at that party table should have been the one to watch. |

I can live with the scrutiny, for the childrens sake. Just once, though, I'ed like to see one of these bastards nailed to a fence and set on fire. You ever notice how infrequently those NAMBLA scum are mentioned these days? John Walsh did it on "America's Most Wanted" once. Got a hidden camera into one of their meetings. Couldn't name names, couldn't show faces. And got his show cancelled, if only temporarily, over it. The guy that hunts them down and exterminates their sorry lives won't get that kind of protection.

Writing this:
And he did see. Through that lens that lived behind the eye and somewhere between the heart and the brain where the secret wires were connected. There, fired from the past to the future was Eves Montes. Eves, that perfect silhouette of a girl who had haunted their summers so long ago. An hourglass filled with cool white alabaster sand. Eves, that film star pinup girl that never needed a silver screen to be bigger than life. That one girl in the whole town who had all the boys fitful under their sheets before bed and all the girls sadly looking into mirrors before their beds and eventual dreams of somehow becoming Eves themselves. Where she walked she brought the summer with her and the adoration of all, young and old. The cafe where she sat became a magnet for every other girl and boy in the town. What Eve wore so did all the girls in the days to follow. Eve was the beating heart of the town. And then…. |

That's what really gets me. Everybody can see the problem. And still, nothing changes. A slap on the wrist for permanently destroying the life of an innocent. The coldest statement I ever heard on the subject, I can't remember who said it, but it haunts me is: "Children don't vote"!

It all comes down to the bottom dollar, recluse.
A child's life is of little monetary value to government. |
