No, I don't. The uds from dr800 and dr1000 are about the same size, only several bytes difference. That's what confuses me: if they disable the features during compilation, the binary size should differ quite a lot.

I am not sure if running the wrong one may cause serious problems. I guess it depends on your definition of "serious". So far, I haven't encountered any problems using the "wrong" one, other than some minor inconvenience caused by the fact that popupmenu is hardcoded for larger size dr1000. All my pdf, epub, txt files open without problem, turning pages are normal, even annotations are fine.

After all being said, doing this is at your own risk. But this wouldn't brick the device in any case.

I am very curious what repods is doing now, can you give us some idea?
I guess i am stupid.. i still did not understand how to get it done. Could you please explain how to do it step by step? Thanks

The basic idea is they're running parts of the DR1000 firmware on the DR800. If you're not a techie, you probably want to wait until others have done this and tested it before trying. There are still probably unknown issues with this approach.

I doubt this is something iRex designed it to do, or have done any testing with.

OK, I guess it should be OK to post the method. Before you do this, please understand that:
1. I don't claim any responsibility of any result by doing this, you know the risk and you are on your own
2. This is for testing purpose only
3. Please share your experience

Per Shaggy's suggestion, I have removed the attachment. But it is simple to do by yourself:
1. Go to IREX firmware update site, download the DR1000 firmware (I used the latest one)
2. Extract the root file system, copy the /usr/bin/uds and /usr/bin/popupmenu and /usr/share/icons/toolbar* to your DR800 (backup beforehand)
3. Reset and have fun!

You might want to be careful about that. I don't think re-distribution of their binaries is legal (they actually state that on the site). It would probably be a better idea to point people to iRex's site to download the DR1000 firmware and tell them how to extract out the contents that they need.

Good idea, I have replaced the attachment with instructions. You can try that too. :-)

it might be a stupid question: how do i extract the root file system in a windows environment? (you are talking about rootfs.bin, right?)

Don't know, but very easy on Linux: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...ghlight=rootfs

BTW, I find VirtualBox very handy.

So we have:
- page flow mode (continuous mode on pdfs)
- list with open documents on the right
- full screen mode
- nicer page navigation bar
- safely remove sd card
- turn off device (which is sleep, not shut down), close document and lock sensors shortcut

This is awesome. The only bad thing is that on main screen just 2 columns of icons fit and I also had some problems with the first paint of main screen.

PS: The screen looks a bit crowded now, but it would of been very nice that iRex would have put this on the DR800 firmware.

What do you mean by "some problems with the first paint of main screen"?

I have switched to list view, 2 columns of icons looks ugly.

Why do you say so? All I see on their site, where iOn and other sources are posted is that they covered under GPL. http://developer.irexnet.com/pub/iOn/.
Do you know something different or just FUD? Kinda hard on us windows people with Cooldragon binaries removed.

One of the required binaries (uds) is not open source. Redistribution of a modified popupmenu (to fit on the smaller DR800 screen) shouldn't be a problem, as long as you make the source code for the modifications available.

I have no means to get these bin files. I am not a software expert so the only complicated process I can handle is to execute the files . may be IREX should make them publicly available to ease the pain. I am sitting here with no help and choice. It looks like Irex Developers gave up and stopped the feedbacks as well. we are all alone :*(

With the addition of 3-4 killer features DR800 could be the best reader in the market for long time. Thanks to Irex Management, that is not happening...
