Why hasn't anyone mentioned iPhoneToday??
I didn't even realize this interface exists until doing a search for something else. I've had it on my W1060/A81 for several hours and am extremely impressed... It looks great. It operates smooth and responsive. It's easy to navigate. It makes a perfect touch interface for Windows CE. and (here's the best part)... It installs on the Wirelession easily and perfectly!! Here's a youtube video... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HG-T2Fv1onE Here's the download links for the app... http://code.google.com/p/iphonetoday/downloads/list Check it out, especially if you've been tempted to switch to a 'big button' OS. This allows you to retain the many Wince apps which run smoothly on the A81, and still have an easy navigating interface. Last edited by pphilipp; 06-16-2010 at 04:47 PM. |

Ooops.
Mine came today, and after charging battery, I went to uninstall their silverlight ui (hanson homecab or whatever it's called). After that though, blank screen with a cursor instead of the regular WinCE shell I expected, lol. Any ideas besides a reflash? |

FriendOfEntropy,
Not loaded explorer.exe. You can try to connect the A81 to the computer and using CeRegEditor prescribe in startup explorer.exe instead of silverlight ui. It is necessary to register in [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\init] "Launch50"="explorer.exe" This reg file with the correct values Startup. init.rar Sorry for my english. Thanks folks.
Can't connect to the PC though, so flash it is. Yeah, I just got in a hurry and wasn't thinking. I knew it had installed with a CAB so got click happy uninstall before logically thinking that their uninstall probably would not set the shell back to explorer in the registry. I don't own a Micro SD card, so was trying to find a way out of my hasty decision last night. Oh well, lunch in a couple of hours so I'll run out and get a card then ![]() Speaking of connecting to the PC, any special drivers once I ressurect this thing? I assume the failure to communicate now is because of the shell issue. Once I get new firmware though, I suppose it will connect to Mobile Device Center without any additional drivers? |

Needy noob here again.
Would anyone be kind enough to tell me the specs on the charger? I was in a hurry leaving the office today, and left the charger at work. I'm not too interested in driving back to the office on a Saturday ![]() I have a Radio Shack adjustable AC adapter from years ago with multiple size and shape plugs, plus the ability to dial up from 3 to 12 volts. The Wits site says 5V on a spec sheet, but I'd feel more comfortable if someone read me the real stats from the adapter itself. I'd hate to damage the new baby. If nobody pipes up by noon CST tomorrow, or if someone tells me some other danger by using the Radio Shack, then I'll go ahead and drive by the office and get the real one. Thanks for any insight anyonve can give. |

Just letting everyone know ---
You only need to install ONE program via APKINSTALLER from PC to A81 Android --- and that is the ASTRO FILE MANAGER. Once you get this app, you can now transfer (even download APK files) directly to the SD card and using ASTRO FILE MANAGE you can install it! So you go to sites like SLIDEME or ANDROID FREEWARE ORG using Opera Mini 5, you can download APK straight to your SD card directly from the A81 Android. Then browse with ASTRO FILE MANAGER and BOOOM! App installed. |

Kathy just confirmed by email that the A81 is offered with Android 1.6.
I emailed her to ask if there is a hardware issue preventing 2.1 so will be very interested in the answer. I read that there is a 1GHz A8 MID soon to be offered (end of June) with Android 2.1 which already available to smartq v5 and v7. Android 2.2 has significant efficiencies in web browsing to offer, I hear on the android fora so its worth pressing for. BTW is EMS to UK at $38 worth paying for? I presume post office shipping would be cheaper. Kathy offers return within 1 week if fault found. Is there a system check program that would check the internal hardware, like sisoft sandra for windows? |

pphilipp,
For you normally works iPhoneToday? At me after start and closing of appendices, the page with icons is displaced and it is necessary to press the screen that the page has returned to a normal state. In the rest the program is very good. |

I've made many customizations to the page (icon size, spacing, top and lower icon palettes, additional categories, text, etc) but have yet found a fix to this little problem. Everything else works so well, I am accepting this minor annoyance. Let me know if you discover any other hidden features of this app. |

I just bought the a81 from merimobiles a few days ago, just got an email from philip at merimobiles saying that a new a81 version is being released june 30th and that it will dual boot winCE and android 2.1, and he offered the option to wait for the new release, at the same price (two hundred before shipping and options). So of course I was willing to wait, I hope it has the new hardware buttons, I doubt it would have a faster processor or capacitive screen as has been suggested if it is the same price. Unless im getting it discounted because its replacing my original order I dont know.
