It is all about software

I hope the new Reader has an improvement in Software, especially navigation books that you have on device. I have 300 books and PDF's, and finding them is a pain in the arse.

Now there are no any specs on the page:

the page you are looking for might have been removed, had its name changed, or no longer exists

Please try the following:

- If you typed the page address in the Address bar, make sure that it is spelled correctly.
- Open the www.abtelectronics.com home page, and then look for links to the information you want.
- Click the Back button to try another link.

I don't think we need a new forum for each model of each device.

No. It's still a Sony Reader.

Since the page got pulled, it looks like it should go back in the section designated for unicorns, mermaids, and the Loch Ness monster.

It's interesting to note though: Someone is definitely keeping an eye on MobileRead. That was, what, twenty-four hours?

OK, you're right. As long as the devices don't differ fundamentally, no need for new forums.

I think it was more like 12-16 hours actually.

The two models are still viewable in the Google Cache: silver and blue.

I noticed that the PRS-500 spec sheet already implies USB2: "USB Port: USB 1.1 or faster port," so this may not be an upgrade on the PRS-505.

I've also been seeing references on the blogs about a faster refresh rate on the display, but I didn't see anything on the ABT spec sheets about that. Has anyone seen anything concrete on this?

First reported here: 10:43 AM CDT. First reported removed: 08:22 PM CDT.

If my notoriously bad arithmetic is to be believed, I make it 9 hours 39 minutes from reported up to reported down. Not exactly scientific, but that's a pretty quick change.

And during that time, nobody else much had it, and according to Google the first post was pgt's original announcement here. So I think it's safe to assume that either someone was watching ABT specifically, or someone was watching us specifically (and we've had other reasons in the past to think that that Sony watches us).

Wonder what sort of nasty-grams landed at ABT over this?

I bet most righties got used to holding the Reader a certain, if not ideal, way and it could be tough to get used to the new design.

I'm left-handed and the Reader was one of the few things that actually favored lefties. Now, they had to go and "correct" it.

I never understood the real need of adding new models of everything all the time. This never-ending consumption frenzy is harming the humankind. Of course its nice to see new gadgets and technologies, but this feeling i get when i just finished unpacking my new device and it is already superceded by the new model, which is better, faster, nicer, trendier... Everytime it happens I feel like I have just paid the "early adopter" tax, or the "idiot buyer" tax. I don't know, I maybe am just old-fashioned.

It's inevitable in a field of rapidly evolving technology. It will inevitably slow down when the technology matures, just as has happened with, say, PDAs or laptop computers. At the moment, though, eInk technologies are still very much in their infancy, and we'll inevitably see a whole slew of new devices. The next major step will probably be "unrolling" screens which are estimated to be in production in 2009.

I personally think that a constant steam of new technology isn't moving fast enough. I'm also searching for something that's "better, faster, and nicer". Trendiness really doesn't matter to me. I usually get tired of technology when I notice it to be too slow or unstable. At that point, I'm looking for an upgrade to what I have. The more generations of devices that come out between my inital purchase and the point I'm ready to upgrade, the better.
