The pros took over. I showed them the blue-eyed one, but it ended up going in another direction. Given how subjective a book cover is, I don't know whether to happy or not.

Yeah, it probably won't be free for too long. I'm not sure when I'll cut that out. Maybe tomorrow, maybe months from now. The version you see on Amazon that costs money is not available yet because AmazonEncore is republishing it in November. You can just pre-order it. This version has been re-edited by an excellent sci-fi editor and so the upcoming version will be better than ever.

Just out of interest with the excellent editor what percentage ofbthe book has seen changes would you say?

Although I spent a solid week making changes with the editor, I'd say it changed no more than 5%.

Lest anyone think 5% changes "aren't worth it":

5% is actually quite a lot of changes- 1 word out of 20. When editing anything, especially novels, editing and rewriting a small portion can make a huge difference, as far as making the story more streamlined, more easily understood, eliminating duplicate characters, making high points higher and low points lower (which increases tension and hence entertainment value).

Even if seemingly little is changed, a great editor can work wonders with a manuscript.

Also, congrats to the author on making the leap to for-pay writing. I downloaded this book a while ago (2nd day after the iPad was released, IIRC), along with several other Smashwords books. Haven't read it yet (sorry, man), but I plan to.

Good luck with sales, and with the next book.

Thanks Daddy! I agree. The percentage change isn't high, but the quality needle definitely swung. I'll be sure to make the new version available in the iBook store when available.
