Firmware Update Can't update your Kindle to firmware 2.3 ? Read on...

Hi, my kindle DX fails on the update on the file /usr/sbin/tinyrot. I have already uninstalled all the other hacks ... Is there anyone who can provide me with the original for firmware 2.1.1?

I still don't understand why some kindles update and some don't, or why the updates come weeks apart. I had to do my manually.

I installed the screen saver hack and it works fine but I can't unintall it or get the new 2.3 firmware to install it keeps failing.

You must remove all hacks before trying the 2.3 update. Once your Kindle has been updated you have to use new versions of the hacks which can be found at the links in my sig.

What version is your Kindle running ?
If it's running an old version like 2.0.1 ; you could try first upgrading to 2.0.3 first ; then 2.3

And to I am not sure how to uninstall the screensaver hack so i went into the system folder and deleted the bin file from the hack. Is that it?

I hope you can help. My Kindle2 has 2.0.4 and I am unable to update to 2.5.

What you need to do to uninstall the hack is place the screensaver_hack_uninstall.bin file into the root directory of your kindle when it's connected to the computer. The uninstall.bin file should be with the screensaver_install.bin file that you downloaded. Once you've placed the uninstall.bin file into the root directory of your kindle, disconnect the kindle go to Menu->Settings->Menu->Update your Kindle and the Kindle should restart showing the picture of the boy under the tree with a book. Once the Kindle restarts the hack should be removed. Hope that helps, and someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I accidentally deleted the bin file. Will this screw my kindle up, considering that I dont want the hack any more?

Don't forget to add the Download USB Hack uninstaller to the list! Took me all day to remember that I'd installed it.

This will create a log file on the USB disk drive ; check it for any failures and see what files is reported as corrupted.

ota_install: C def:patch:patchinfo="/opt/amazon/ebook/config/netfront.ini":checksum failure

And report back here...
