For all the north americans, "Men who hates women" is "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo". Another one of those books where the publishers felt the north americans couldn't handle the original title (like Harry Potter and the Sorceror's/Philosopher's Stone). I have one sister who lives in Spain and when my other sister was visiting she and a friend of my [spanish] sister both started raving about the book but didn't realize until well afterwards that they were talking about the same book.

Just finished In the Time of the Terror. Thanks to Crutledge who has generously offered a whole shelf of GA Henty ebooks through MobileRead, I'm on a real Henty roll. I love the ripping yarns and sound historical detail. Can't think why so many folks have Henty down as a YA writer; his work appeals to any age group. Last week I read With Lee in Viirginia (again thanks to Crutledge and Henty): a superb novel of the War Between the States. I'll be starting on my seventh Henty tonight. Cheers. Neil

Having also recently read 61 Hours, and enjoyed it (though not his best), I also would question the ending.

Without giving any spoilers, the novel whilst entertaining was lightweight with a low page count. it seemed to me that it had been stretched for purely commercial reasons to provide material for two books. The sequel being already heavily advertised.

Still, a recommended read though, 4.5 stars from me.

I'm not a great fan of fantasy, but my own wee house just released Liza Granville's apocalyptic *The Tor* this week. Read it again last night and think the reason it grabs me is that it's got its feet on the ground and the fantasy element creeps up on you later in the book when you're already hooked. You can read about it and grab an extract at our site (see below), but if you drop me an email in the next 24 hours, I'll be happy to send the ebook over to you in PDF, ePub or Mobi with our compliments: ntmarrATbewrite.net (but use the @ sign). Cheers. Neil

Finished The Thirty-Nine Steps voted on by us MR users as this months book for the book club, not a bad book but I wouldn't call it a page turner. Now I'm starting on: The Lost City of Z: A Tale of Deadly Obsession in the Amazon. Looking forward to start on this one.

I am currently reading The Thirty Nine Steps, Three Men in a Boat (not to Mention the Dog), The Hunting of the Snark, The Hobbit, Project Management for Dummies (dead tree format.) Um mm, I think that may be it.

Pouring with rain on the 'sunny' French Riviera. Jolly good reading weather, as might have been said (but wasn't) in Three Men and a Boat. I can feel a Dickens weekend coming on ... with thanks to HarryT for his superb ebook conversions of pretty well all the old man's work. Cheers. Neil

Have you read it as an ebook? Can't find it on Amazon in Kindle version, only in paperback.

I'm about halfway through "The Pale Blue Eye" by Louis Bayard. Great book so far. It's about a gruesome murder at West Point in the early 19th century. The detective is assisted by a young cadet named Edgar Allen Poe.

Halfway thru Right Ascension by MR's David Derrico. It is book one of a two book series. Nice thrilling danger from space aliens.

I love our writers!

Well... I finished The 39 Steps.... it wasn't a bad book... just not very good... at least to me. Certainly not a "thriller" as this months MRBC topic was.

I'll post more thoughts once the MRBC thread for it opens.

Now to choose my next victim.
