problem is, im running linux on my main machine, so my version is notoriously out dated.. even saving a single format to a folder, still gives me a folder in that folder for each ebook.

Dont use the plus on the keyboard but use the plus at the bottom left hand side of the screen. Must say the manual and the help is very poorly written. Good info on this forum very usefull to a new user, Jeff |

First, a matter of terminology, Sony does not support "folders". They have "collections" which are similar to one level folders. The difference is a folder would actually contain an eBook file. The file would not appear in any other folder, or in the main library. A collection looks like a folder, but only holds a pointer, or reference name, to a file in the main library rather than the actual file. That means you can have an ebook file in the main library, and multiple collections with the same book name in each, but only one actual copy of the ebook file. It's a database thing. How were you "setting up folders." Both Sony Reader software (not recommended), and Calibre (highly recommended) facilitate creating and managing collections. There is no practical limit to the number of collections you can create. With Sony Reader software, you click on the plus "+" sign to create a new collection. While I was writing this response, I see you found the right spot. With Calibre, you add a name for a collection in the either the "Tags" or "Series" field. This can be done from the main database window, or the Edit metadata information window. You can put multiple names (not ebook names, collection names - i.e. Mystery, Romance, Thrillers) in the "Tags" field, and a collection will be created for each name. I hope this helps. |

To put MSJim's description in very, very basic terms: "collections" are essentially Sony-speak for "tags".

I have a new trick to add -- I create to-do or packing lists in Word, then print them as pdfs (using DoPDF: http://www.dopdf.com/) and then tick off the list using the notes function. If it's a packing list or something I repeat again, I can erase all my tick marks and start over next time
