Main thing to know which was VERY important was to delete the Kinoma files that were in 2 locations.
I'm afraid you're both missing the point. The problem being reported here has nothing whatsoever to do with the Sony eBook Library software, but is that Windows itself is not recognising the Reader as a mass storage device. That has got to be down to either:

- A problem with the USB port.
- A problem with the cable.
- A problem with the Reader.

Until the original poster can get Windows to recognise the Reader as an "external disk", any talk of the eBook Library software is pointless.

Latest version of Sony software

I too am having a similar problem. I've downloaded several books using the Sony software onto my 600. I've charged it as well, several times.

Now, when I connect the unit to the same computer, it tells me "USB device not recognized". What's with that?

Yeah, I know, it's not a Sony problem, it's a hardware issue. Oh well.

Just bought the PRS-600 and had the same problems +.

Go to http://www.mobileread.mobi/forums/sh...ad.php?t=40987

I had installed the Sony eBook Library on Win XP before upgrading to Win 7 (64bit). It worked "as software".

I then upgraded Windows and bought the PRS-600.

I could not get it to work/recocnize the ereader.

I also could not uninstall "eBook Library" the normal way and had to download "Revo Uninstaller" to get rid of it.

Then follow the instructions at http://www.mobileread.mobi/forums/sh...ad.php?t=40987

It now works perfectly with Windows 7 (64bit).

I have Windows 7, 64 bits, and the last EBL version (3.0.01.10191), and I had this problem of "Device not recognised" too, pretty scaring as I just had mine this same day.
I just reset my PRS600, and after its restart, all went well.

To follow up with mine, I spent quite a while in an online support chat with sony, It was not helpful at all. I'm fairly tech say and do web design and support for a living so I was pretty familiar with typical trouble shooting. I went through this with their first tier support and he wasn't able to resolve the issue, got a 2nd tier support person on, he took a few minutes to "read the previous conversation" and then had me do most of the same steps (all of which I had tried previously on my own)
The end result was "well we tried everything and nothing worked, you should update your MB drivers/flash your bios".

I haven't bothered as my comp works just fine and shouldn't need to do that.
I just use an older comp that is recognizing it and have decided to live without it on my win 7 comp.

I'm sorry that this doesn't really help any others out there that may be experiencing the same issue. but that is where I'm at now.

I was wondering if you ever solved your problem, because I think maybe I have the same one.
I don't know much about computers but I think my PC does recognize my reader because I can see the properties, but when I go to My Computer it doesn't show the device, so I can't access it.
I really hope you can help me!

Thanks.

And this is why I always have a small partition devoted to a previous generation operating system on my newer computers.

Oh, operating systems. You can be so cruel.

win 7 64 is officially supported. Ideally, you shouldn't need to use the Sony Library software. The device should work, whether Sony Library does is another story.

Yeah, I know that, but people have had issues even with xp and the library software....

I'm just looking for confirmation that someone is running it under win7-64.

I have the Reader Library installed and running on Windows7 x64 (both Pro and Enterprise, haven't tried on other editions) without issues, my PRS-600 is detected and working properly.

I had that problem a couple of days ago .In the end I used the re set button and then I went into the settings on the reader and pressed restore defaults .Today it works fine . I have been using windows 7 since Jan and this problerm only occured a few days ago.

I have the 505 and 900 and installed the Sony Library software on my new Windows 7 - 64 machine last week and all works perfectly.

I don't think it is a general problem with windows 7 but possibly with your usb ports/management ... I had that sort of thing (unrecognized device) happen on laptops, desktops, etc. and generally have to go into the device manager and uninstall/remove the device/driver and reinstall it.
