IMO, the bigger question is, assuming the worst happens, what this means for warranty support, etc.

Hopefully they can pull through this and come out the other side as a better company. But right now I'm treating my DR800 VERY gently.

I broke my foot so I have been out of action for a few days. Just came back and saw that this link apparently has been broken. Can somebody post these files on Rapidshare or a similar site? Or perhaps PM me and e-mail them?

The site is intermittent but I would grab all of the firmware while you can If the site doesn't come back, I grabbed only the last 3 (1.6, 1.7, 1.71) for the DR1000S and can share them...

Now it works, thanks!

We all hope that Irex can reorganize and continue to stay in business. But the fact that they have stopped sales is not very encouraging. Successfully avoiding going out of business for good means they either can get new loans, reorganize existing obligations, or find a new investor. But if they have no money coming in...

They dropped the iLiad support, no epub for it. They was selling a dead device. They drop the support of their e-reader in europe. I have black lines in my iLiad and iRex can not fix the problem 'cause they have no screen. There are people with dr1000 and iLiad broken, in warranty, and they can not repair it.
I lost my money for a device that is broked again (second time in less that an year) and I remember who was defending iRex for WRONG choices and bad support for the consumers.

That's really bad news, but there was no secret that iRex management is highly incompetent. I really like my DR800 and I hope iRex can recover from this, although is highly improbable.

That link to the iRex update site is not working because the ending square bracket character was included in the URL. As far as I know, the http://updates.irexnet.com/ site has been online and available since yesterday -- it's just this thread's links to it that have been broken.

Note, the link Ride put in their post is broken (he's got an extra character at the end), the site should still be available however.

They just put up RC2 of the firmware today, so that's a good sign.

It is quite ironic to read this from their CEO:
Quote:
Then last year, the DR800 - August 1 "ereader initially intended for the U.S. market - was delayed due to leakage of the FCC approval procedures, missed iRex major release just before Christmas, making a commercial success was forthcoming. This is a direct cause of the financial malaise, says Bronze.
If history has not been changed, the DR800S (not the US DR800SG) model was released in January 2010. Does an ereader without wireless option has to go through similar FCC procedure in Europe too? Or it doesn't matter because Europe people don't buy even for Christmas?

Anyway, whatever caused the delay cannot be undone now. Granted, the dr800 and dr1000 are still very good ereaders in the 8 inch plus category. However, the price point has already determined that this would be a very small market. And for people in this market, they have higher demand than those who are satisfied with 6 inch devices to justify the extra cost. And if the company failed to satisfy these demand in a timely manner, it is just a matter of time to be out of business.

Personally, I think Chapter 11 is good for IREX and customers. While they have to come up plans to do whatever financial tricks to stay, they will also have to make the current products more profitable, that means more useful features and less bugs, which is probably not urgent if they sell well. In the worst case, someone else will buy the design team and come up with new marketing strategies to sell them. The biggest problem for existing problem is truly the warranty.
