yep. now you can scroll that popover list, just put your finger on it and flick up and down. sci-fi/fantasy is below parenting.

kind of non-obvious, i know..

Eddie, glad you liked it!

Yeah, readers often comment on the end, often with mixed feelings like yours. I tried a few alternate endings, but the current route just had to be.

I've not read this on the iPad, but did read it (downloaded from your website, Sam) on my PRS-600. It's a very good read. I for one, liked the ending. I also thought of Ender's Game in the beginning. The virtual reality games the characters play inspired me to go play NetHack... Thanks for that. I ascended for the first time in years. ^_^

Download the epub, and I believe you can put it on the iPad through iTunes.
Of course, you can put it on any other reader that supports any of those formats, too.

the sci-fi/fantasy store stopped giving me the "more" option at 50, just like the app store on the ipad. maybe there's a way to browse a longer list via web or itunes. when you're going against the tried and true classics in the overall free section, you're facing some stiff competition. mark twain, brothers grimm, h.g. wells. jane austen, shakespeare. i wouldn't have any hopes of cracking that list if i were you. no offense.
Oh, I certainly won't take offense at being beaten by a classic, but what's interesting is that MetaGame hit #2 on the Amazon Kindle store as a free book which should have been *harder* than this best seller list for iBooks because it was competing against freebies (including many classics like The Art of War) *and* paid books.

From back in December:

hmm. no clue then. i'll admit i downloaded your book but haven't had time to read it yet. but it would have to be amazing to compete against the likes of shakespeare, twain, or austen.

LOL, please don't start my book with the expectation that it competes with these authors! You'll end up throwing your iPad across the room in disgust and I don't want that on my conscience. I mean, hey I obviously like the book, but it's sooo not Shakespeare.

You can't see it in the screenshot, but #3 was a free slow cooker recipe book. I think what catapulted books like MetaGame and the slowcooker to the top was that it was free and it was new. Everyone had already downloaded free Dracula and 20k Under the Sea, etc. In addition, Amazon has a sophisticated browsing and referral system (e.g. "People who bought this bought that") not to mention their genre best seller lists are easy to find. So once the ball got rolling, then it snowballed.

I don't have an iPad and so I can't use their iBook app, but from what I can tell from this thread, their storefront is pretty primitive right now. As jsWolf said on this thread, "browsing is lousy" and since I'm not a well known author, people aren't going to search on me for no reason.

Now that I realize this, I think you're right. MetaGame won't get into the top 50 because it isn't in the top 50. Classic chicken and egg issue...

by the way, it's still #1. has 4 stars out of 5, with 29 ratings. there are 8 written reviews, all positive.

unfortunately book information shows up sort of like album information, in a small pop-up window. i can't copy and paste some of the reviews for you. maybe this will improve with the new itunes store due in a few weeks. i hope so, the existing store is a total PITA to navigate!

Frankly I like the original cover, the girl with the blue eyes really stands out on my ibook shelf.
