I admit, I am over 50 but my eyes are not that bad. I do most of my office paper work without glasses. I think Large (whether Portrait or Landscape) should be large print - kind of like a large print book. (No, I don't read large print books - yet.)

It has nothing to do with your being over 50; everybody has that problem with books bought from Connect. I suspect that the people who format those books have never seen what they look like on the Reader, and that's the problem. Honestly, I am probably not buying from Connect again just because of this. Maybe I'll start buying .LIT books and format them myself.

I don't see how anyone can answer this question. I've encountered some books with small font settings that look too large for me and some with large font settings that are still barely large enough to read. I found Spook Country, by William Gibson, for instance, perfectly readable at the small font size while Sin in the Second City is unreadable at this same font setting. Both books were purchased from Connect.

I use portrait small since I can now make things larger with the bookdesigner program. If it's something bought from connect etc, I usually have to make it larger so it's in medium size.

Does anyone know whether it's possible to return a book purchased from Connect if you don't like the formatting? If so, how?

I don't know for sure if you can or not, but I'd guess that calling their support folks would be the first step, anyway.

Well, FAQs are actually useful

This really sucks. I don't think I'll buy another book from them.

What book was it you purchased? And yes, still give them a call. They may be able to help. They are very good at helping.

It was 1491 by Charles C. Mann. I can't read the maps and it lacks the illustrations of the paper edition (and illustrations in a history book are not merely decorative, they are there for a reason). Thanks for the suggestion, but I don't think I am going to call them, since it's been almost two weeks since I bought the book.

I have to say I just cannot get used to using the Reader in landscape mode, not even for PDF's. Not sure why this is the case, but I guess I feel I should be able to see the whole page at once. Now if only the device was able to scroll a document's page like on a PC, then I could use landscape mode without any objections.

Since I'm still young (fairly so) and a little near-sighted, I stick with portrait mode and small fonts, though my wife tends to prefer portrait with medium fonts (no idea why, but she's happy so I don't push my my tendancies off onto her).
