all you have to do is a full restore and the jailbreak will go away. not much harm in doing it really. my only advise, if you ever need to take the unit into the apple store for work, be sure to remove the jailbreak (restore your unit) first. apple does not take kindly to jailbreakers. it also technically invalidates your warranty/applecare. apple has also gone as far as saying it is against the DCMA and illegal, but has never actually pursued anyone who was jailbroken.

But if you need work done on the iPad, there is a chance it won't work to remove the jailbreak and thus, you'll end up with a broken iPad that's no longer covered under warranty.

well. if your ipad is broken, as in non-functional, then it's unlikely anyone in the apple store is going to know it's jailbroken. even if the screen is open and they can't turn it on and use it, it's unlikely they'd easily detect it (or even bother to check). but, if you walked in and said "i jailbroke my ipad here and now it's acting strange." well, they'll probably laugh you out of the store.

my point is, be smart about jailbreaking and what you expect with it. if you can't, then no, it isn't something you should do.

Of course, it takes two minutes and you can always do a restore through iTunes to get you back to the standard iPad system.

Also under eu law unless the reason it broke was because of the JB they would legally still have to honour the warranty.

Thanks for the heads up. I was wondering if I should buy the A1 browser. I bought Atomic and enjoy it. (Atomic + Backgrounder is pretty awesome)

Is there a way to restore a jailbroken iPad if the dock connector was what became non-functional? The iPad would still work otherwise and if you then had to send it back for warranty, you'd be screwed.

Being jail broken wouldn't cause the dock to malfunction so the warranty would cover it even if jail broken! Also it's not illegal to jailbreak.

Apple say via the ula if you jailbreak it voids your warranty but they don't actually enforce this because it would never stand up in court UNLESS the jailbreak was why the unit failed.

If apple were refusing warranties on jailbroken iPhones it would be all over the net.

apple is pushing to make it illegal in the US, they are citing the DMCA which prevents things such as reverse engineering and decrypting the OS images.

i guess if your dock port was broken (easily done, shove something in it) you might have some difficulty wiping it clean, but i can think of a dozen ways to do it from the command line to wipe the OS and have a completely non-functional unit to take into apple. not exactly honest. but..
