Three gorgeous large tomatoes this morning. Too bad the Cilantro was done (dies in the heat this late in the year.) I had to buy some from the grocery to make my salsa. The big tomatoes will be for moz and cheese and or brie and tomato...the neighbor has basil! Will trade a cucumber for fresh basil!

I believe he had a brief stint there as an assembly-line worker for Toyota.

The wife just bought a new sprayer for the hose that has multiple settings. It looks like a shower-head. The garden and her flowers should be mighty happy.

The fam went to Farmington Gardens this morning, a lovely thyme was had by all. We are now the proud owners of no less that 17 strawberry plants, a few basils, flat leaf parsleys, petunias, begonias, and enough tomatoes to keep Washington county in salsa and/or spaghetti sauce from the end of July through the End of September.

Oh, well. If I have, there's always next year. The house sits on what was once a strawberry patch, and we still see wild plants coming up in the lawn from time to time. |

Verily, Never in my pasty half-century have I spent such a princely sum in a nursery, save to redeem my progeny from the surgeon's care.
But, from the going foorth of the battlecry, "We must have fresh pesto!" The onslaught of herbiage was unstemmable. It may hap our produce is so vast, the Food Bank will deny our zucchini. ![]() Last edited by Poppa1956; 06-05-2010 at 10:01 PM. There is a plant-selling event in my city this afternoon, I may go have a look if I'm not too lazy.
The tomato plants seem to be growing lustily, but no flower as yet. I think there may be one or two basil plants peeking up, but I'm not sure. The rocket is also starting to grow, but not everywhere I sowed. No sign of the tarragon yet. And the chive has not died, I have started using in in salads, mmm. I think my weed project is not working, and I also think I know why. The seeds I picked up were not mature. I'll have to try again in a few weeks. |

For some odd reason my tarragon didn't grow at all. Although I planted it in the same soil as the other herbs, in the same size pot and all growing side by side, both plants shriveled up and died. I wonder why?
Gonna have to buy my tarragon at the supermarket this year. Stitchawl |

We've had about a pound of strawberries over the last 3 days, with more to come ... !
Nothing else due for a while, potatoes looking good, as are the onions, horeseradish and some peas. The tomatoes will be a miss this year, not too sure, yet, about the courgettes/peas/beans - they all appear to have suffered from a cold start and have not yet gathered themselves up. |
