Okay, so today I got around to nicking the garden boxes from next door (they're marine-grade stainless steel) and hacking a chunk off one with the jigsaw and drilling a couple of holes to see if I could hook them over the back retaining wall for a herb garden. It works!
![]() I've still got to do the rest, buy more if the hooks, and paint them, but we'll soon have the start of a herb garden. The rest, with different hooks, will run along our bottom balcony, possibly with dwarf chilli plants in them: ![]() This bit will hold some of the longer boxes (they're all different sizes) and go to that first big pole. The Loved One also put some more postcrete in the holes of the uprights for the new side retaining wall, and we'll probably start on the horizontals on Tuesday. The top garden formed by that will get some hoop pine mulch and some more golden cane palms. Cheers, Marc |

Herb gardens are the best of all to have. You can pick and pick, always having new growth (if you're lucky.) By varying your ethnicity in food choices, you give your herbs a good rotation of harvesting, so you always have fresh herbs for the meal. The only one in serious demand seems to be parsley, so I have several pots of it growing. Three pots of rosemary, three of oregano, two thyme plants, six basil plants (just because it smells so damn good,) two fennel plants, two dill plants, peppermint, spearment, two pots full of cat-chewed lemongrass, and as of this week, three pots of cilantro. I think I got the cooking herb requirements filled... Time to think about tea herbs.
(Note: I freeze a LOT of herbs for winter use.) Stitchawl |

I worked and worked. I have one vegetable box, that's how the green foot above calls them, ready and covered for planting. It has to wait for when we come back from the sea. It will be late in July. I will put on the winter things. The lawns are trimmed. The other box, just needs a little scratching. Now I have to trim to measure a huge bush that occupies half of the terrace and clean the terrace. The garden is becoming nice. We eat outside more and more and LD likes it very much. We set up a little red tent for her where she can take little restoring naps with her dolls. She is adventurous and tries to climb the threes. Her legs are a collection of bruises. Black and blue. Ah!

This little fellow was in my garden this morning for a picture posted in another thread. If you look close, you can see the squash peeking out behind him.

I'll probably get lots of it since there was a ton of dust to be wiped off him before that picture was taken! Oh, joy! ![]() |
