Just finished rebuilding my computer setup. 5 computers, 9 Tera hooked up, two monitors, keyboards, and mice, plus a Optiscan 3600, and a small stereo.

The Hole is loaded and ready for action...

9 terra ??? NINE terra ???? of hard drive ?????? i am in awe. and maybe a bit jealous. if i had 9 terra available to me i could probably rip and get rid of all my dvds and all my cds (of course, the question of whether i could actually bring myself to part with certain of them, like my boxed set of the thin man movies, is another pair of sleeves), and still have plenty of room for my gigantic work files. wow.

I've been thinking on those lines too. The price of storage is decreasing quickly.

How many books could we fit on a one terra drive?

That's just in The Hole (2x3 meters, with one wall full of leather bound books around 400). I have another 20 Tera in other parts of the house. (and offsite).

2 Terabyte drive are running $130 US around here in Texas, out the door with all tax paid.

As Mae West might of said - "Come by and see my rig sometime..."

yes, i think every single hard drive i've bought has been exponentially larger and cheaper than the previous one. the first one i got was a gigantic 50 giga if i recall correctly, i partitioned it with 15go for the system and i thought i'd *never* fill it up.

how naïve. the last one i bought was 1 terra, and i paid less for it than the original 50go one. and i don't mean "proportionally less adjusting for size and inflation" ; i mean the actual ticket price was less.

Hmm. Average book in mobi at, say 1 meg... times 1000 for gig, times 1000 for a tera...that's a million books!

Enough for a few months of reading...

ha ! 50 go ! 50 go was just a dream when i bought my first one, it seems. i just checked my records and it looks like the first one i bought, in 2000, was FIFTEEN go !!! the entire thing ! for system and data !!! my god, i don't know how i managed.

and i paid 669Francs for it, which is 102€ according to a handy online converter.

my last hard drive, which is 1To as i mentioned, cost me 71.80€, in november 2008.
