Now I did something even more stupid than trying to grow food on my windowsill... I am trying to grow weeds. Not the illegal kind, but the kind that grows everywhere if you let it. Which my city now does, thanks to the "Green" administration we have. So there are weeds everywhere, which is a bit surprising but nice. I went out to collect seeds (I hope) and even cut off a few random pieces, which may or may not grow, what do I know. I even found a poppy, but I didn't want to cut the flower, which seems to me the most likely way to get seeds (but what do I know), so I left it alone.

I put all this in a shallow bowl filled with that expensive rich soil I bought. So I'm sure that there at least, something will grow. That's what weeds do, right?

Anyway... it's something I wanted to do. Now I've done it

Make a note of where that poppy is and go back in a few weeks when the flower will be dead and in its place will be a seed head. When this turns brown the seeds (if fertile) will be ready for planting .....

It is not stupid. Some are really beautiful. The poppy poppies are of an other sort. But you can get the plants from the guys near Pont Neuf. Pink are the most beautiful. They have nice leaves that stay nice also in winter. The seeds, if you toast them are the usual poppy seeds that you can buy in grocery stores.

Thanks! I had a very very vague idea this would be the thing to do. I had an idea: I'll go back with my GPS and memorize the spots

Beppe, I could have bought poppy seeds at the shop, but those are cultivated poppies, they're different from the ones you see on the edge of fields or in meadows. I just want the ordinary ones

I've always felt drawn to those plants we call "mauvaises herbes" (bad weeds). Some of them are beautiful, and even if they are not, you have to admire their energy and resourcefulness

I understood this. Get them then, they do not last many days, but are very pretty, simple and delicate. Consider also the Clifornia Poppy, which is usually yellow and hardy. Nice weed. California poppy (Eschscholzia californica)

You are lucky then, KK. My brother in law made a rabbit for his friends in Austin. (He got el rabbito from his Tejano friends) And his friends refused to eat it. Disgusted by his insensitivity.

I dont understand why the cat eating your lemongrass would have any effect. Last time I had lemongrass in it took over the whole back yard in a couple of months. We had to remove it all (and it took ages). I am too scared to plant it again it is worse than mint.

How do you remove lemongrass from a cat?

I didn't think I was that ambiguous!

Remove it from the back yard.

The cat didn't care to eat it, but he like to hide in it and leap out.

I don't get it.

We have a pretty plant pest that grows over our fence. If it was passion vine or ivy I'd have at it wit a crowbar, but it's just a big, bushy dome of tree covered with white flowers (that aren't actually flowers). It's pretty in the sun and pretty in the shade and doesn't care if you hedge-trim half its head when it gets too wild. I'm looking at it, from bed, out the back door, in the morning sun, right now.

Cheers,
Marc
