Herbs, herbs, and more herbs!!! (erbs?) I need to buy a small basket for dinner harvesting. It doesn't seem right to use a large basket for a single sprig of rosemary, a few basil leaves, and 2-3 stalks of parsley. The dill is as high as my knees and thick with fronds, the fennel forming nice bulbs. I think the secrete to a successful herb garden is to play Gregorian Chants quietly throughout the day to keep them company.
Sorry to say that the spearmint isn't doing as well as I'd hopped and the damn cat has been eating my lemongrass!! Think it's time to make 'Tom Yom Meow.'

...but then somebody has to peel and clean them! And the cat has already flavored herself with the lemongrass. Besides, meow aloi mak mak, chai mai!

(but this reminds me that I need to plant some new glalangal and coriander!)

My tomatoes had quite a shock this week-end as I suddenly put them in the blazing sun after growing for weeks in my kitchen. Some of the leaves have gone white, but otherwise the plants seem healthy. I watered them heavily this week-end but now the sun is gone, so I'm giving it a rest.

I've been reading, and talking, about tomatoes and I think I planted them too close to one another. I wonder if I can still move one of them to the other side of the planter, and then maybe put a basil plant between the two tomatoes...

A deer got into the garden last night at 4 AM while I was at work, but my son chased her off with a flashlight. If I catch Bambi in the garden, we'll have meat to go along with those potatoes! Venison, anyone?

Fortunately, the deer didn't seem to be there long enough to eat anything. I didn't see any evidence that she had even been there this morning.

Here's the way the garden looked 15 minutes ago:

No no NO!!! Cats are extremely gamy tasting! Probably the only meat that I really detest. Dog has a strong flavor but not nearly as disagreeable as cat. Cat meat even smells foul! (Not fowl.) If you want a close substitute for chicken, try some grain-eating (or grass-eating) rodent.

And for those of you turning your noses up at the thoughts of eating these things, ponder this; who was the first person to say, 'See that chicken there? I'm going to eat the next thing that comes out of its arse.'
