It's possible to add limited number of letters, but then comes "which letters" problem. Generic solution is much more complicated.

kartu, thanks for your help on upgrade, and then one BIIIIIG THANKS for the work on PRS+.

This was the (failed) upgrade from PRS+ 1.0.2. The log that I copied from the reader was correct, to the letter (well, a space here or there might have been added/removed). I had the same problem when I tried to flash 1.1.2rc.

After fresh flash with 1.1.00.18040 the upgrade was performed with the same SD card, so the theory that SD card errors might have contributed is a bit shaky, but not impossible. I am off to install that dictionary.

target.arrowKey (line 168)

To support additional column (basically replace 2 with 3).
Then change keyMap (it's a variable, line 21, easily understandable format)

It is almost impossible to read all of it, and I learned about the possibility to upgrade from main memory just a couple of minutes ago.

I've had something rolling around my head for a few days (you can even hear the clunking ), ans I thought I'd put it out there. Of course, I have no idea whether it's feasible, possible, or even just a Good Idea (or Bad Idea).

As far as I'm aware (I could be very wrong here..) the book database on the internal memory seems to simply be an XML file at /database/cache/media.xml . Is this correct?

Also, Kartu has demonstrated that the scanning of memory cards can be disabled. Can the same be done for the IM (for eg: when you unplug the USB)?

If the above were true, an idea may be to have an option to disable scanning of internal memory when USB is disconnected. Instead, if one could talk with the Calibre developers to implement managing the database from within calibre instead. This would be much faster I'm sure.

Of course, whether is is possible, or a Good Idea is another matter entirely...


The reason for wanting to do this is once there's 200+ books stored on IM, there is nothing worse than plugging in your reader to transfer a couple of books onto it, only to have to wait 3-5mins for the reader to become usable after unplugging it.

EDIT: Since calibre can manage collections, and from looking at the structure of the media.xml file, it looks like calibre already adds (and removes) books to/from main.xml.

e.g. current chapter, book title would be nice.

I see where you are heading to. Scanning comes down to:
1) Reading XML files
2) Walking through ALL folders on IM/SD/MS card (in case of external cards it's particularly slow)
3) If new books are found, opening them (!) to read author, title etc. (slow, but, probably, unavoidable)

Pepak suggested skipping steps 2-3 some time ago, at that time it was quite hard to implement, now it seems possible. Actually, even using external program to create cache XML files won't be necessary as reader could do it itself, it would be only necessary to manually trigger rescan. (well, and wait )

But that being said, 3-5 minutes to scan 200 books on INTERNAL memory, seems to be too long.

I am not sure that "current chapter" info is available, book title, however is.
But the question is, where could one fit all that info? And isn't it simpler to do it when preparing the book (ok EPUB doesn't have page header/footer, but LRF does)

I am trying to install the 1.1.3 installer and it wants to roll back
my firmware before installing. It looks like it is making the backups
of the old firmware files and then pops an invalid type error.

I accidently reformatted the 505s IM before doing the install, so I am
currently reformatting to ensure it is FAT32 and not the default FAT
that Vista wants to make it.

Will this help or am I completely off base?

I finished reformatting the IM to FAT32 and copied the install folder to the IM and I still get the invalid type error. Any clues?

I looked in the PRS+ Support group, but did not see anything that really answered this question.

Or just open it via Games & Utils => Dictionary.

Thanks for responding. One of the reasons I raised the query is that I liked the LRF header/footer. Because it had become obvious that LRF had no real future in Calibre, I forced myself to only use EPUB because I don't want to be fruitlessly moaning that my converted LRFs "aren't quite right". Now I am very happy with the combination of EPUB/PRS+ and can do all the formatting I've ever wanted (except right justification).

I recently bought a second ereader (PocketBook 360) because I wanted to try a more portable 5" model with bells and whistles. I have been amazed at how much customising an amateur, like me, can do. Status bar is just one small example (although displayed info varies depending which viewer you use, ADE or fbreader).

But the question is, where could one fit all that info?

Just for info I have attached 2 screenshots showing the same EPUB in ADE on the 2 different readers. I have deliberately picked a book with a too-long title. Do you think the status bar on the 5" reader is too "busy"? An even smaller font could be used if that was better.

I don't want to push this too hard if you don't fancy it. I just thought it might be nice. By the way, I still love my PRS505 so keep up the excellent development work.
