Hi Sheikspeare,

Sorry, Farinaz, but B005 means you have an international Kindle DX, and so this .bin won't work....

Yes, Farinaz, as Anarel notes it doesn't sound like you have a US DX. Incidentally, the first four digits of my US DX are B004. In which case, to go from 2.3 to 2.3.3, try the bin file at: http://www.amazon.com/update_kindle_dx_gw.bin

If that works, then the next step is the bin file at
http://rapidshare.com/files/38188633..._472900057.bin

Let us know how you get on.

Hi guys,

I downloaded the bin file from Sheikspeare's link and my Kindle DX was able to update itself successfully from 2.3 to 2.3.3.

Thanks to the kind assistance by Anarel who identified my actual Kindle model and Sheikspeare for the links and files.

Cheers!

Yes, but did you go all the way from 2.3.3 to 2.5 with:

Hi Sheikspeare,

The link for the 2.5 firmware appears to be dead? Will the firmware work for the Kindle Global?

Cheers

I have a kindle 2 and a kindle dx. Both US versions purchased in the US.

Forgive my ignorance: how do I get the version number?

I am now living overseas. The kindle 2 manages to connect to a 3G network and I can even use the rudimentary browser. The kindle dx does not work with any wireless network. As you can probably tell from my post, I know nothing about setting up the kindles, could you please guide me on how to set up the wifi on each device?

Do I have to work unsecured networks? The WIFI we have here is WPA2.

Thank you

Farinaz, that link was for the DXi, and so in your case should work.

Kamran, serial number is displayed in small print on the back of your Kindle DX. It begins with something like B00....

Neither of the Kindles (or any Kindle for that matter) uses Wifi in the sense you're assuming, that is, through your personal wireless network.

From the sounds of it you have US DX; the wireless will only work in the US.

Thank you for the information

I will check the back of the DX for the serial number.

What's really sad is that I cannot use my home wireless network. <sigh>

There is no way to convert the DX to the international one via a firmware update? Hmm. That is sad.

The Kindle 2 is US made, with a A* number and it goes on the 3G network here in the middle east with no problems. It's version is 2.2. I wonder how this is possible.

How do you do an upgrade? Just copy the bin file over to kindle via the usb cable?

All Kindles are US made. What's more important is to determine the market your device is aimed at: US or international? So it seems you have a DX for US market and K2 for (non-US) international market -- hence the difference in wireless functionality.

Upgrade is as you assume it to be.

Upgraded. Thank you to everyone. Thank you very, very much.

The collections work so well. I have over 400 books in there, and it's going be a while before I organize them all - but it will be easier now.

My serial number is B005* - Is this an international version? (*Made in China* of course)
