Me too (about Winter's Tale by Mark Helprin) . It was back when the book was only available in hardcover. Always thought I would re-read it one day, but I hardly ever re-read books. I've since given it away.

I love this book. In fact, it's one of my favorites. I still have the First Edition in F/F condition.

I'm currently reading "Shantaram: A Novel," by Gregory David Roberts. I'm only 32% into it, but I'm loving the book.

Imagine if Edgar Rice Burroughs had grown up. That's the kind of writing this book contains. It's a very philosophical and moving novel, but also full of eccentric characters. The book also has a lot of humor.

Based upon what I have thus read, I can highly recommend this book.

I read it a few years ago and I enjoyed it as well. A sequel is scheduled to be released in September, I'll be sure to pick it up.

I am reading "Latin Alive" and "The Red Pyramid", which is a fun YA novel. I've been on a big YA kick lately.

My brother tipped me of this book/Shantaram a while ago, now my mother is reading it and she likes it a lot, perhaps they feel the book is extra interesting since they've both been to India. I'm still struggling with The Mysterious Island for the book club. It's picking up speed but I'm still only half through, this is quite a thick book.

I have to put Shantaram on my list.

Currently I'm reading City of Thieves by David Benioff. I became interested in the book when I was listening to the Court Yard Hounds cd. City of Thieves is qoted on the album jacket and the band took their name from the book. The Court Yard Hounds are two-thirds of The Dixie Chicks.

Recently finished "Pillars of Earth" -- an excellent book and many thanks to those who recommended it (lack of time due to work meant it took longer than it might have otherwise).

Now looking forward to "Friends, Lovers, Chocolate".... (and, in case anyone wonders, I'm refering to the book by Alexander McCall Smith).

If you liked *Pillars of the Earth*, LazyScot, you must try the follow-up, *World Without End*. Superb stuff and also available in ebook. Cheers. Neil

'Silk' by Penny Jordan.

I thought it was time to experience something from the romance genre. 'Silk' is an easy read set around 1930 and based in the fabric industry.
Disappointingly the heroine, Amber, is a shallow character with (so far) few interesting characteristics, although this does give rise to moments of unintentional humour:
"...Amber felt as though she was walking on air, hugging to herself the knowledge that no matter what happened to her in her life, no one would ever be able to take from her the pleasure of buying her Chanel bag."

The blurb says Penny Jordan is a mentor to new writers; Penny Jordan also writes sentences like:
"Aix-en-Provence, even though seen merely from the window of their wagon-lits, had literally seized her heart..."
A geographical region has apparently ruptured our heroine's sternum, and taken hold of one of her major organs!! If only.

It's quite an enjoyable read; but mainly for the wrong reasons. I won't read any more of Jordan's books, but I'm sure I'll find better Romance novels to further my education.

Well, I like that so much I've gone straight onto the third. This is one of those trilogies that's really one big story split over three volumes, rather then three linked stories.

So I'm now reading Goddess by Fiona McIntosh.

I'm fully into a poetry reading mode and got hooked into Sharon Olds - One Secret Thing -- which seems to harken back to some of her earlier and incredible work.

Also reading (re-reading in some parts) Jane Kenyon's Collected Poems
and
The Collected Poetry of Nikki Giovanni

Life is good!

I'm reading "Black Silk" by Jan Gordon on the B&N app. It a freebie and I have just started it, but it seems to be about
Spoiler:
werecats, and hopefully some erotica. I'm getting lonely while recovering from surgery.
