Question sony reader library 3.2

just installed this on a mac. The web-link for "more details.." is dead.
Anyone know what new features it's supposed to boast? (it still doesn't do obvious stuff like allow you to drag a book straight to a collection on your reader!)
Anyone know what the additional book icon (the standard brown book but with a magenta circle in the bottom RH corner) is supposed to signify?

What's new in Reader Library software version 3.2

Go here to input your model number and continue.

If prompted, under Drivers and Software heading, select your operating system, (Windows) or (MAC) and continue.

Read the section under heading What does this do?

I also have a Mac and thankfully I have no problems at all with the software on my computer. It works exactly as it should, it's very solid and never froze up or crashed my computer.

So, when I installed this upgrade, it tagged all my books with little pink dots - anyone know what the dots are supposed to represent?

Where are these tags showing up? When you list them in the folder or on the Reader Library software? Could they be the icon for ePub or a generic icon which means the ePubs aren't associated with a program to open them?

Wetdogeared - the tags show up in the main library views on the reader, on top of the old "brown hardback" icon. As Ken401 suggests they seem to be flag books as "new" or maybe "unread" because they disappear from a book after you open it.

It just seems odd that they decided to assume that all your old books are now "unread" again.

@mwheinz OK, thanks.

I have been reluctant to update to this latest version. There was some suggestion, somewhere I can't find right now, that this version might not allow transfer of LRX ebooks to the reader, and that it asked you to download the ePub version. Can someone confirm that you can or can't transfer LRX ebooks to your reader after this upgrade, thanks.

I love my Sony readers, but the Reader Library software is terrible. It is going to take a lot more than a minor upgrade to make it usable. First, they should rewrite it from the ground up using something other than Flash. Second, they should make it work like a standard Windows application in the Windows version rather than make it look like a POS Mac application. To be perfectly honest, the Reader Library software looks and feels like it was developed by non-professionals. Even the web part that allows you to purchase books is pathetic with a lackluster search engine and non-standard functionality and GUI.

It's amazingly bad, isn't it? My favorite bug is the way scroll wheels don't work unless the mouse pointer is directly over the scroll bar. If you have to move the mouse pointer anyway, what's the point of supporting the scroll wheel at all?

I found the 3.2.00.05102 update via the Help|Check for updates menu pick in the Reader Library. The support for auto delivery of periodicals is what interested me.

The installation went smoothly with no issues. When I start the Reader Library, my periodicals automatically transfer to the Library software and my PRS-600.

Maybe it's just me, but I think they fixed the scroll wheel problem that mwheinz mentions above and which I have also experienced in the past (XP-Firefox). I did have to click once in the main portion of the screen for it to work. Certainly doesn't make everything better, but its a start.

Sony Library Software 3.2 Hangs During Initialization.

After what seemed like a successful download and install, the new library software hung accessing my e-reader. The LED was flashing orange and red, so it was communicating.

I have about 1250 .pdf, .lrx, .rtf and .epub and .mp3 files on the SD chip. The 3.0.01 software works "ok", but the 3.1 software introduced a very bad bug that manifested in the PC program's waiting about 40 seconds before it accessed the e-book reader after a command like (list directory) was executed via the UI. Now, the 3.2 software doesn't work at all.

What a mess. Luckily I have the older version on another laptop, so I'm not dead in the water. The Sony people have informed me that the previous version is not available for download and "backup". To believe that any piece of software is tested these days, and not have a backup option is really crazy.

I have rarely met a less helpful bunch of people.
