Just when I had cleared my Micropay account, my brother (bless his cotton socks) gave me a Fictionwise voucher!

I'm a little hesitant to get a magazine subscription myself. I'm not sure FW will survive if they can't come to some sort of agreement with the "Agency 5". I'm not sure what would happen to remaining issues. Hopefully either B&N or the publisher would honor the subscription.

multiformat options give the best of many worlds, pick up a book first time round, on the second go, change the choice to another format .... strange ...

That is what I have been scouring, but I had been buying books from Fictionwise for 5+ years, so I have got the obvious suspects! They do seem to be on life support these days. B&N swallow them and Amazon have swallowed up Stanza. A lot of consolidation going on.

I can still find plenty of multiformat books to purchase so my Micropay isn't just sitting there. I even renewed my magazine subscriptions.

Since almost every single DRMed book is priced higher than I'm willing to pay (thank-you agency pricing) even if Fictionwise had the big five publishers I still wouldn't be buying from them. Am I concerned about Fictionwise's future? Of course, but businesses go under all the time and I've learned to immediately download and backup any digital purchases. The magazine subscriptions are more problematic but I would hope that Fictionwise would either find someone else to honor the subscription or refund my money in the event of their going out of business. IMO, it's more likely they would be completely absorbed by B&N including their multiformat catalog. |

I'm lucky I guess since I'm trying to buy all the Fletch books and Nero Wolfe novels and they are sold cheaper on Fictionwise with the discounts than anywhere else. I've built my micropay back up to $85, but with several Rex Stout books coming a week and the fact I still need to buy a few more Fletch books I'm sure I will spend it.

I'm honestly not worried about it getting shut down. B&N owns it and I'm sure they will compensate us in some way if that happens. They want Fictionwise and ereader.com customers buying Nooks they are not going to just steal our outstanding micropay and drive us away. As far as the books I have all of mine downloaded and the DRM removed so I feel I actually own the books I have bought and if Fictionwise goes away I can move on to another store or device in the future without worry. I hope Fictionwise sticks around though. I've shopped there for nearly 10 years and really don't want to see all the smaller online book stores close. |

Not all books are back at fictionwise for sure. I can name 2 on my wishlist right now that I wanted to buy that are gone from my wishlist and gone from the site to this day.

I'm sure if I can name 2 then there must be many others. |

I still have two dozen bought and paid for books where I keep getting re-directed to 'lightning source' and told my territory is not authorized. I have tried hidemyass and hotspot shield and it will not let me download with those on. I am pretty mad about this and Fictionwise was not very sympathetic and sent me a generic 'we're working on it' message.

Same here - except the number is 100 at fictionwise and 13 at ereader. The saving grace is that I am very good about downloading and keeping copies. I spend most of my computer time now at my elderly mother's on my netbook though, since she had a stroke a year ago. This crap meant I had to spend my rare precious time at home when someone else was caring for her retrieving these book.

I spent a hell of a lot of money so I wouldn't have to spend time stripping and reformating and crap. If I have to do that, I resent paying for the privilege. |

ficbot, and lcalvin; why not have an american DL them for you, and email them to you. the DRM would make the files fairly useless to them. (even with removal tools, no access to the pid)

then you would have your files. |

I had the same issue in another book store and tried having someone from USA to download my books - didn't help. Didn't help either that my friend changed my address to an american address. Still that Ligtning Source territory error message.
