Great FREE image viewer with screen capture capabilities. If you try it, the feature is under options. I use it and FastStone Capture ($$$). |

![]() (I'm sure there is a better way, but this seems to work the best for me since normally I'm taking a screenshot of a problem and this way I can crop out any extra that I don't want to include in the email -- like the window frame. ![]() Pushing [PrtScrn] by itself sometimes doesn't seem to do anything at all (and othertimes it gets the entire desktop. ![]() |

It amazes me what people will pay for.
There are many cross-platform free and open source software than can do these things. I use the GIMP for anything requiring a GUI, and it'll do screenshots, and lets you choose between doing the whole screen, a window with or without borders, or any arbitrary rectange on the screen to grab. It's also one of the most powerful image editors in existence; it's often compared Adobe Photoshop (though I've never used that so I can't compare myself), and completely free. Personally I often use ImageMagick's import function, which also lets you take a screen cap of any rectange on the screen. Both of these can also batch resize, or batch-do-just-about-anything. When I tried a Windows 7 demo a year ago, however, I'm sure it came with screen cap software, capable of allowing you select exactly what you wanted to capture. Is it just the Pro version of Windows? |

One of my favorite Windows critters! Macs have a similar tool, but you have to press Command-Shift-4 and drag to select the portion you want copied. Command-Shift-3 copies the entire screen.
