Netbook Tablet as a Viable eBook Reader Option - Page 11

So for all comic book readers perhaps the s10 blade from the same company is a better option with 10.1-inch HD LCD with a 1366 x 768 (WXvGA) multi touch screen, although you will pay a hefty price for this one, sells for $950 on ebay.

I had 5 minutes to kill today (ok, it was more...), and I decided to look up some nice convertibles. Tables are out at this moment, they are simply too expensive (though I've seen a very nice one, the Motion J3400 Tablet PC. problem is, it's $2200! It's perfect for the kitchen...).

So, I finally got my choices down to two contenders. The Asus T101MT and the Packard Bell Butterfly Touch 351. The PB is slightly more expensive (at around €630, vs the Asus at €480...) but it is also a bit stronger (more memory and larger screen...)

Now it's time to find the money...

Has the packard bell machine been updated like the equivalent acer model because the older acer 1820ptz has been replaced with the 1825ptz which has a few minor updates and has changed to being a capacitive screen and a cheaper price?

Unless you want the increased size and weight of something like the hp then those do seem to be the best options with you having to choose whether or not the extra screensize and performance are worth the increased weight.

The reviews for that machine seem to be pretty mixed, those who used the 1.6ghz version were not very impressed with it, whereas those who tested the 2.0ghz version were much more impressed with the machine, but given that cpu is only an option in ssd-equipped models you are looking at over $1000 for what is still only a netbook tablet.

I read the Acer didn't have a stylus anymore. Which makes it a no-go for me.

i bought the tm2...too heavy...sold it...still looking for a viable Comic Tablet...and i think the IPAD is a bit too small for that. I was hoping for the HP Slate but i suppose that's dead in the water...maybe the webos one HP is supposedly releasing will be good enough for that purpose.

Hey -- I just wanted to say, thanks so much to the OP for this post. I ended up buying the very Asus unit that was discussed (and am typing this message on it now). I don't use it as an ereader, but it is the perfect size and capability set for on-the-go usage (especially on the bus). Paired with my Mifi card, I can manage my websites, check email, answer support tickets for my on-line biz with a unit that is small and light enough to carry around with minimal discomfort. I am really glad to have opted for this instead of the iPad. Thanks!

the asus is a nice little unit for the price. Any little imperfections are quite easily managable. It might not zip around as fast as the ipad, but it does a heck of a lot more.

In the waiting room, I came across a Popular Science magazine article that discussed turning a secondhand Tablet PC into an e-reader. They suggested looking for older tablets off of eBay, etc, and then installing reader software like Calibre, Adobe, etc. The idea being that one isn't limited to the sole content of one platform like Kindle, etc. Now this referred to actual full size tablets. But still interesting read. It was a Nov 2009 article. My Asus T91MT serves as my main e-reader now, but then of course I use it as a computer too. (this article was aimed at stripping down an old Tablet and literally making it a dedicated reader)

I remember reading that article... and thats what I did.... lenovo x41t pent 4..put windows 7 on it...even with 1.5gb ram it runs real nice... nice 12 inch screen... stylus... ereader...bed web surfing... the 8 cell extended battery should get me into the 10 hour range with screen dimming, bluetooth/wifi turned off and powersaving setting... its hard to beat... esp for the price vs new netbook tablets and new big tablets...

Cool-to hear from someone who actually tried it, and you turned it into a surfer too, not just exclusive e-reader. Yeah, those new big tablets are a pretty penny!
