I don't expect to be able to do anything on the Web on my phone (not that I'll ever own a smart phoen) that I can on my PC. But I do on whatever tablet I buy as web browsing is a top 3 or 4 use for a tablet for me and it needs to be able to display all the sites and content I regularly view to be worth a purchase for me.
You'd be surprised at the kind of web stuff people do on the iPhone. A lot of people actually do use it like they would a PC. Every so often on the iPhone forums, you'll get an influx of Flash lovers demanding that Apple put Flash on the iPhone.

I use my iPhone for business and I use it for many of the same purposes as my laptop when I don't feel like lugging my laptop with me. I answer email, look up info on the web, shop Amazon, etc.

Even now, IM keeps the whole conversation using push notifications in the iPhone OS.

Not sure how some random blog that uses a bunch of hand-waving and semantics to "prove" how much better N900 multitasking is than the iPhone's has anything to do with what I said (where, you'll notice, Nokia isn't even mentioned), but OK.

really? you've experienced problems with iPhone 4 multitasking already? and windows 7 phone? wow. you're farther ahead than the rest of the world. since neither one is officially released.

why don't you come back when you have some personal hands-on experience and then post some legitimate complaints. parroting someone else's fluff piece about nokia doesn't prove anything. nor does it give you any actual experience.

And why don't you drop the personal attacks and accusations and stick to the points at hand. If you want to discuss technology and good and bad points, great! let's do it, but frankly we're all a bit sick of your behavior.

sure, but if you're going to make a claim, like having actual experience with an operating system, or writing one, be sure you can actually back it up. making wild claims without any real proof is just lots of bullshit.

sonist says "not that simple, in my experience" which means he is claiming to have actual hands on experience with the four operating systems mentioned in the article. hard to believe since 2 haven't been released to the public yet, and developer builds hardly count. then redirects to an article about nokia's multi tasking abilities?

you've made claims that you've written several operating systems, but can't even define what one is for me.

I don't mind having discussions or even heated debates with people who make sound arguments and statements they can back up with evidence. what irks the hell out of me is people who are going to dump a load of turd and tell me it smells like roses.

I'm a bit sick of the lying, so i guess we're both sick of something. tell you what, you stop the bull and I'll stop calling you on it.

Those were all the types of things I'd consider lite web browsing, and things were Flash isn't likely to be needed. So that kind of reinforces my point.

And yes I get that many people do a lot of web browsing on their phone, so maybe my post came across to broadly. But I do think most of it is fairly light stuff like that.

But anyway, I'll restate it more personally--I'd never do much browsing on a phone (if any at all, smart phones are pointless to me since I don't travel much and spend 95%+ of my time near a PC) and it would be limited to very basic stuff like e-mail, looking up an address to put in the GPS in the car etc. Not worth the $30 a month data plan--especially when I only pay $20 a month for my 12mbps home internet!

So I couldn't care less about having Flash on a smart phone if I got one as I wouldn't be watching streaming video, browsing multimedia sites with lots of flash, playing flash games etc. on my phone anyway.

I 100% would on a tablet as it would be my main surf the web on the couch or in bed gadget, so Flash support is a must for me in a tablet until some future date when Flash isn't so prevalent on sites I frequent.

As I said earlier, I'm not going to sink to you level but will continue to express my INFORMED opinions and comments as I see fit. I don't have to prove anything to you, clearly it wouldn't matter anyway, but for anyone in the least bit interested in reality there is plenty of information out there on me and the products under discussion. For those interested in bull there's plenty of that right here in this thread provided one or two posters.

Now, as far as FLASH it clearly is a significant, useful and important component of websites. If Apple wants to provide devices to access the web then they need to get with the program and provide reasonable applications to access the web which the are not currently doing.

Flash is not a want or need for me as I don't frequent many sites that use Flash. I'm not into Flash games, Flash video on a mobile device or my laptop.

Obviously, Apple's mobile products don't fit your wants or needs whereas the iPhone does an EXCELLENT job fulfilling my wants and needs. The data plan does a heck of a lot more than look up addresses for the GPS. Here's an example for you. Yesterday, I was out for coffee with a friend. We were talking about the oil spill. Whip out the iPhone and current information about the spill including maps, video, etc. We were also talking about the Norman Conquest. Again, the iPhone provided information germane to the conversation.

To you, it is a significant, useful and important component. To many of us, it is a resource hog with significant issues.

If Flash is an important need or want for you then Apple mobile devices are the wrong choice for you.

Ummmm.... not really.....my point is that if Apple is serious about getting/staying in the web browsing device business then they need to go along with the official or defacto standards.

If you personally have issues with it then you should have the option of disabling it, not have that option unavailable due to CEO's with over-large egos and control issues.

when adobe actually submits flash for approval by a standards body, maybe apple will. until then, they seem to be selling the ipad pretty well as is.

Sorry you don't understand what defacto standard means. Would you like me to explain it to you?
