Another couple of options:

There are methods to convert (even DRM-ed) Microsoft .lit files (fictionwise is a good source) to lrf, even on OS X.

Biblioskop has been the easiest method to get stuff into the main memory of the reader, though the fuse externsion and libprs500 library have both worked.

You can also use the latest beta version of GraphicConverter to convert/resize/split oversize PDF files to readable size.

I haven't found any utilities that will write to an SD Card or Memorystick directly inside the PRS-500. But you can always pull the memorycard out and put stuff on it directly (EDIT: Just saw that Scotty1024'a FUSE module will read cards as well).

If you're in any app that allows printing, you can always print/save as PDF with the correct page size set for the PRS-500. I've also seen (not personally tried) to print/save pdf directly to the PRS-500 using libprs500 and/or the FUSE library.

And all of the converter tools out there for PC work inside VirtualPC (sans Sony Connect).

And I've had no issues charging my PRS-500 directly from my iMac in its cradle. This thread is the first that I've heard of any issues charging the PRS-500 from a Mac USB port.

One app I found that seems to work on some .lit files is a simple droplet app.

Lit2html.app

Havent tried it on any DRM'd .lits but its worked for me in the past, and is the easiest way I've found on mac, no terminal, no applescript, just drag and drop.

This hint came from MacOSXHints. The actual hint for reading lit files is here

good luck,

ereader reachable from G3-Mac OS 10.3 ?

Hi!

is there any hope thjat I can connect my G3-Mac to my new ereader using OS 10.3?

I asked the developer of libprs500 and people from biblioskop - but both programs require OS 10.4 (or Java 1.5) - which I can't afford to buy right now / will not buy for my rather old iBook.

thanks for any hints !!!

There is a Windows machine about one meter from my iBook - belongs to my wife but has Windows 98 on it.

Would that help?

Unfortunately not. You need Windows 2000, XP, or Vista.

If I had one of these Windowses - would that give me any more possibilities for my MAC than just doing the Connect software ?

If you're interested in creating your own books, having Windows would also allow you to run the book creation and conversion tools that you're not able to run at the moment.

I use Docudesk PRS Browser to add/remove books.

It seems to work faster than Sony's software on the PC.

However, this method does not support the Connect store.

I use it with ebooks purchased from Fictionwise. Fictionwise now offers titles in the Sony Reade format.

So Docudesk PRS Browser + Fictionwise Sony Reader formatted ebooks = happy Mac reader!
