There's a big gourmet grocery store not too far away that keeps a set of shelves of wine that has been independently tasted (in the big wine magazines) and rated 90 or above (on a 100) scale for under $20 US. The 2005 Clancy came in at 90, which is why I started drinking it. You get wines from everywhere, so I sample all sorts of varieties. Next up will be a 2008 Dr. Loosen German Riesling Q.AB. Also rated 90 for $14.98 (and a screwcap.)

My general rule is it has to be under $20 US. I have to have money for e-books, too....
I like the NZ Whites because they are so much more crisp then the Australians - I like my Whites on the dry side. If I want sugar I eat chocolate.

TBH we are truly spoilt here in Australia - so far I have not found a wine I didn't like. I am trying to drink my way through the shelves to taste as many as I can. And when we go for a drive we usually buy from the vinyards direct - often wines you can't even buy.

I try and stay away from the great companies as the grapes come from all over the place. Although it does make for good drinking wines at a reasonable price.

As I have nearly stopped drinking I can allow myself the indulgence to spend a bit more on wine. A glass / day is usually all for me. Kinda overindulged once a few years back and am still recovering.

Right. I have always limited myself to 1 drink/day since I started drinking (although I did get drunk once under controlled conditions, so I knew what it was like. I didn't like it.) Having a glass with my evening meal is a mark of elegance to me....

Same here. I do enjoy a glass of red with dinner. And that's it for me. With advancing age I have discovered the joy of drinking red. White only in summer and only when we go out.

Sorry, Texas. I've read the man's books, but the only Kinky Friedman music I ever got near was taken away by someone who thinks Country music begins and ends with Hank Williams and Patsy Cline. (Thanks, Mom!) His music is very hard to find in New York. The only country music we get on the radio around here is from the wrong countries.

Great news! You'll be able to get out and about by yourself. I'm glad everything seems to be healing well.

My mental envisioner has difficulties with this.

you had your suspenders on
you had your set belts on
you were strapped to the bed, to the bathtub
they were dripping the stuff in your vein
