I looked him up. There are books on Sony Store and on Kobo. Do you know of others?
Books on Board has some of his books. Have you checked into borrowing ebooks from a library?

I read some of those a while ago and remember that they were cute and funny. I may need to check those out again for summer reading.

Hi FlorenceArt,

If you decide to get into Cormac McCarthy austere and fascinating world (male world it is), I would start with the Border trilogy

All the Pretty Horses (1992)
The Crossing (1994)
Cities of the Plain (1998)

and I would start from the beginning as the stories intertwine. All three are IMHO absolute masterpieces and have left an unforgettable trace in my spirit. There is the powerful nature of the region and its proud inhabitants: West Texas, New Mexico, and beyond the Border, the cruel, sanguine, sweet, magic and philosophical Mexico, Sonora and Chihuahua. North and South. Modern and Ancient. Civilized and Primitive, Pride and Compassion. Fairness and Cruelty. And where Humanity and Wisdom reside? With the humbles. The three novels are stories of passages through these contrasting entities, and they chant the passage from boyhood to adulthood, from dream to reality. Some blood must be shed.

There is room for marvel, tenderness and passion. Unstoppable passion being the force the drives all the characters through these adventures.

Having understood the poetic of the great master through these three books, one can achieve the full enjoyment of the last two novels

No Country for Old Men (2005)
The Road (2006)

the last being again an absolute masterpiece.

I really hope that you choose these books.

Helpful as always. I just checked: they have more than the other two put together and a much lower price

Thank you. I am sure that one day I might be able to reciprocate.

That you Beppe, I will keep your recommendation in mind. For now I have decided this would be too much for the state my brain is reduced to right now, but after my cold is over I will look for those books.

Reading 'Different Seasons' by Stephen King and really enjoying it. STILL slogging through the Oprah book. It's interesting and I am enjoying it but it is taking me forever to read, and I am not sure why. I am normally a very fast reader.

Just finished the graphic novel Crude Behavior: A fundamentalist tale told by kidd millennium by Ron Callari, Illustrated by Jon A. Donohoe. It's an interesting commentary on the Iraq war and the players involved.

Native Guard - Natasha Trethewey

WOW! I purchased this Poetry Collection on a whim (to get free shipping from Amazon). It won the Pulitzer Prize in 2007.

It focuses on the Civil War and Race including that of the author herself.

from wikipedia: Trethewey states that her book Native Guard "represents the idea that I am a native guardian to the memory of my mother’s life"

Not quite sure what to say other than Incredible. If you have any interest it the topic itself this collection will blow you away.

Actually available as an ebook though I purchased the p-book used (as I typically do with poetry and non-fiction).

http://www.amazon.com/Native-Guard-P.../dp/0618604634

Highly recommended.

Here's a link to one of her poems at Poets.org:

What a wonderful poem "Flounder" is. I'm going to have to put her in my list of people to read. Thanks, Kenny!

(not Pratchett, more girly funny)
Did you read the Jen Lancaster's I suggested?

Also, while not girlie per se I also find Bill Bryson and Mary Roach to be extremely humourous and informative nonfiction writers and since we like a similar style you might like them too?

I'm reading spooky little girl now and it's okay but not blow me away funny. The Idiot Girl and the Flaming Tantrum of Death still reigns as her best at the moment. Has she written any other fiction books or was this her first?

I forgot about that and now I went back to January looking for the recommendation. I'm sorry to ask, but would you repeat it? Also, good idea about Roach. I always giggled at her Readers Digest essays.

Duh!! MelC, I just got both of them on Tues and forgot! I'm blaming it on stress and meeds, not just my normal ditziness.

I got Pretty in Plaid and My Fair Lazy. I already read the sample of P-inP, and plan to get the rest as soon as I finish the other sample. I guess that I forgot them because I got them right before the. Cinco de Mayo party. I thought I loved peach margaritas, but it turns out that my wise SIL knew better and turned neon to peach daiquiris. OMG!!!!

My Ipad was a big hit also. It got passed all around, and they turned several of the games into team sports. A niece and nephew got the apps on their iPhones, and it was the hit of the party.

How's the font working out for you compared to other reading devices?

It is great, and I've been reading up a storm. I change it to white text on black with a font about 1/4 inch. It's working out very well. I have found out, however, that the Kindle app leads to the most selection, but it doesn't read as easily. The largest font option is way too small for me. iBooks is better for me, but the selection is very small. Sooner or later, I will have to re-learn how to use Calibre.

Glad you're able to get that extra-large font. Too bad it doesn't work with the Kindle app, though.
