The point of an agency is to vet potential employees and save money. If they're still interviewing, and paying the agency, it seems to me they're potentially compromising their savings with expensive managerial/supervisory interviews. Sounds like a poorly run business (or an agency about to lose custom, from both sides of the equation). Time is money; wasted time is...

For temp unskilled jobs... yea... pretty much go here tomorrow at 8 AM and work for the day. They call the next day if they want you back.

But for skilled labor or professional (especially my profession programming) temp jobs are at least 4 months long and they do interview.

Ok, didn't know that. I had a perm job for a few years and just got back to temping - must have changed. Still crossing my fingers. But as the agency lady is in hiding I suspect I didn't get it - ah well, we just keep looking.

I am a professional! They do interview on site if there is something unique about the job. But then those contracts are usually more than a few months.

The more experience you have, the more challenged the hierarchy feels. Temp work is drone work. The temp is the elastic to support a company through its growing pains.

The company that searches for personnel is not trusted to perform exacting interviews, because they are paid by the number of people they rake in. Crosschecking interviews is essential.

After 30 years of perfecting my craft, not withstanding my huge portfolio, I was subjected to a technical exam. Little Tippy fresh out of school got the other job in a snap. (or a blow)

So - as part of my recent "you're over 50 now" lecture from my doctor, I was scheduled for some scans this morning. I arrived, paid my co-pay, and sat down in the waiting area. 50 minutes later, as the receptionist was leaving for lunch, she exclaimed "What are you still doing here?" Unimaginatively, I replied "waiting." So she ran off to check on the room where I was scheduled for my scan - came back and said "the patient with the appointment before you is still in there. Do you want to wait?" Well no I said, I've already now missed over 2 hours of work (with driving time) and left. Is it any wonder people don't have all the recommended tests/procedures done when this is the level of service you encounter?

Anyhow - as I explained elsewhere - I have to hide - certain (unnamed) MR members are out to roast me on a spit because they suspect I'm an Amazon infiltrator!! I figured they wouldn't recognize this side of me!!!

Somewhere, somehow (perhaps on the web, perhaps in a directory used by a 411 service) the address of the convenience store at which I work is listed as a branch of Large Bank*

Some grocery stores have bank branches inside them, but this is a convenience store and all we have is an ATM for Large Bank. Large Bank pays Oil Corporation** a monthly fee for the space and electricity.

Every few months, some poor confused soul mails important documents intended for Large Bank to my store. We send them on to the nearest real branch of the bank, but it's still annoying for all parties involved. I hope no one is too terribly inconvenienced by the delay in proper delivery.

I also get frustrated when there are problems with the ATM. No one employed at my store has any authority to call out a technician when it's broken. No, we can't call the armored car company to come if it runs out of cash. No, we don't know when the next delivery will be because they change the route every day for security reasons. No, we don't have extra deposit envelopes. I'm sorry, I really am, but I can't help and it's really frustrating when people yell at me, like someone did today. I know people are in a hurry, otherwise they'd wait until they can go to a proper bank. I know how frustrating it can be to be stranded without cash. But please, for the love of bunnies, don't take it out on me.
