The books are much better formatted now, but I would ask for one small change in the next release if possible, Jim. In the Book Properties, could the increment in selected Max margin options be by 5% steps, rather than 10%? I'd really like that increased control over spacing.

It seems to me that the Max Margin value is applied even when the style sheet defines less (except when the style sheet sets 0).
That is, when the style sheet says margin-left: 10%; margin-right: 10%; changing the Max Margin value to 20% or 30% will increase the margin. |

1) Freda will look at the formatting info in the style sheet(s) and decide for each block of text what margin it should have above/below/left/right. Freda collapses all the complexity of different margin sizes into a margin size of none/small/medium/large. 2) To turn those 'none/small/medium/large' values into an actual on-screen margin width, use the following lookup table Code:
'Max Margin' 0 10 20 30 none 0 0 0 0 small 0 3 6 10 medium 0 7 14 20 large 0 10 20 30 Why did I make it so complicated? You may well ask! I ask the same myself. Last edited by Jim Chapman; 03-24-2010 at 01:48 PM. |

Jim, here's a new problem--new in the sense that I don't think I've really used the function until now. I've been trying to use Find, and it's been difficult. When I pop it up, it usually automatically tries to find whatever was last highlighted, or whatever it last tried to find. I had trouble getting to the screen where I could enter a search term and select whether I wanted to search forward or backward. Also, when it searched to the end of the book, it didn't ask if I wanted it to start again at the beginning, or to search backward--both of which are likely alternative choices.
In addition, I thought it might be useful if the arrows (soft keys, I think you call them in Options) could be used to Find Next or Find Previous. Not all the time, but only when a Find function had just been used. |

One of the things I'd asked for early on was the ability of the open dialog to see user directories so we could store in categories. Of course I'm new to WinMo, so I'd overlooked something obvious that makes that unnecessary for me.
Of course there's no way that I'm aware of to associate files inside file explorer, but there are plenty of utilities that make it easy -- I just installed WMkits (free), associated epub with freda, and now I'm getting ready to move my entire library both into epub from various formats and onto my device. I no longer have organization concerns relating to that. Categories in my old Palm version of eReader were one of the few things I've missed since moving to WinMo. Even the WinMo version of eReader sucks in that regard. But this system is actually way better since now I get as many subcategories as I want. All I have left to do is create a shortcut for my spb home screen that opens file explorer straight to my ebooks directory, and I'll be really good to go. Edit: my shortcut: Quote:

I managed to resurrect my old Dell Axim (had to dismantle it and tape the touchscreen cable--why it worked I don't know, but I'm glad it did!) and so went looking for an ePub reader to compliment the one I use on my eeepc. I found Freda and after figuring out I needed an updated ActiveSync, an updated mobile dot net, etc was happily reading some eBooks. Thank you for this application! At least there is one--all the poor suckers with Garnet Palm devices have nothing at all...(I can say this, as until I resurrected the Axim my main eBook device was a Zire 72s.)
Any way, I am having some issues with eBooks made by the fanfiction site "Twisting the Hellmouth" is there some way someone could test this out and either clarify what I'm doing wrong or chime in and report that this is indeed an issue? To test it out you just have to find a story and select "Whole Story" and choose the ePub option, which will cause the site to create an ePub version of the story sans pictures. Thanks again for this wonderful program... --bornagainpenguin PS: AFAIK I am running the latest version of the program for Windows Mobile 2003. I installed via cab since the MSI installer detects the lack of dot net 2.x and refuses to proceed despite having dot net 3.5.x installed. |

Jim, I want to give you a big thanks for this software! I got V1.1 loaded on my old HP Ipaq Rx 3715 after updating my .net. It works great and I can now read ePub on this older Windows Mobile device.
![]() I use Calibre to convert my ebooks in other formats to ePub formats. Since I can't just sync directly I just have Calibre "save" to a folder on my hard disk and then copy and paste directly to the Ipaq. |

Jim -- I have a large book that fails to load properly in Freda. I wonder if I could send it to you privately for testing. (I've lost your email contact.)
Thanks. Jeff |

Hello, I discovered Freda yesterday as I was looking for a program to read ebooks in my Xperia X1 (WM 6.1); I have used until now Microsoft Reader (not officially supported in WM), with all the problems derived from the proprietary format, so I figured that it was time to switch to an standard format like e-pub, even if that means converting my library. So I installed Calibre and googled for e-pub readers for WM, Freda was the first result I got, so I installed it (copying and running the .cab as I run Ubuntu and syncing doesn't install programs AFAIK), converted some e-books and loaded them, and it works flawlessly.
One of the features that I like is rotation override: the Xperia X1 has a slider keyboard, if you open it (even a few milimeters), the screen rotates, and if there is an open app like Microsoft Reader, with a book maybe 2000 pages long, when you take it out of the pocket it takes a while to re-paginate; with Freda I can override rotation to 0º and get rid of the problem. So, thank you for this nice program, and for help me to find this community to talk about e-books. Be kind with my spelling mistakes, english is not my first or even second language. |

Bottom line: it may be something I can fix by changing Freda; I will look into it further. [EDIT: I have found an alternative ZIP-extractor that does understand this format; Freda v2.0, when released, will be able to open this file OK] Jim Last edited by Jim Chapman; 05-24-2010 at 04:32 AM.
