I respect chickens. That's why, to eat one, I must first fight one, raking bird claw to striking cloven hoof. To the victor goes the meat and the reading of the entrails, blessed and sworn to the Chicken Goddess or the Cloven Dark. The Cloven Dark doesn't get to eat much.

By coincidence, the 11th of May is the Dark's annual Day of Darkening. Bring a plate. There'll be fairy bread and honey joys!

I have a lot of respect for chickens. For one thing, they have an almost perfectly geometrical shape. And I love the way they scratch the earth and then take a step back and look to see what's there. A chicken is never bored. They never know what they're going to unearth next
