Maybe that's more the case, it's less taxed here. I'm really not sure, but I know there is a vast difference in price here (lower) than there (higher).

I currently pay £1.15 per litre (which I think converts as about $1.70). I know it was much cheaper than that in the US last time I was there.

Just to say I've been riding one for the past 2 years. My one's called an Ezee Liv. I've had a normal bike sitting at the back of my garage for over 10 years and probably ridden half a dozen times but with the electric bike I found I was using it every other day and actually enjoying every ride - meaning I get more exercise by using it (I peddle at the same time). I also found it safer because it can get across junctions very quickly and isn't so much of a hindrance to other vehicles (I tend to cruise along at approx 20mph peddling like blazes). I quite like unusual vehicles as well. That's not to say it's been all roses - on longer rides there's always the danger of the battery running out and then you're stuck peddling a bicycle that's twice the weight of an ordinary bike. The battery also doesn't live forever, mine lasted 2 years and the replacement cost was quite frightening. I'm currently riding my old bike everywhere and quite enjoying getting reacquainted but this is my electric bicycle: |

Good topic, Harry. I've thinking about getting one for a while. I don't have a car (can just about afford one, but would rather save the money), but those bike rides over 4-5 km can be a bit much if you care about not arriving all sweaty and you hair all limp! However, I'm about to move from a city to a small town where the distances may not justify an electric bike so I may just keep using my ordinary bike I'd say they are a great idea; even if you get a little less excercise, you do get some, and fresh air, too. And if anyone should wonder, you get more fresh air on bike even on a heavily trafficked road than the people in the cars. And exercise, too. The thing that has always prompted me to use my bike for getting to work has been the fresh air and exercise I get going home. I's always ice to get your mind 'aired out' through a good bike ride home. |

Unfortunately for me Oslo's core has become quite polluted with a lot of traffic going in and out of Oslo all day long, at summer time the air doesn't feel very healthy.

For anyone interested in "Air quality" for Europe. Go to: http://www.airqualitynow.eu/comparing_year_average.php and check out if your city is participating. |

Do remember that pedestrians and bicyclists are - with regards to air-pollution - better off than the motorists, and that the physical exercise is a bonus on top of this. They might be better off if they jogged in the country-side, but if you have to live in the city, it's better to get the fresh air and physical exercise that's available.

I am not sure at all that jogging in a heavy traffic zone with traffic jams and inhaling all the putrid air can be compensated by physical exercises. The air is not good in general, but when you run, you inhale so much more of it! | |
