I live fairly close to the US boarder, about 3 hours away, one hour away from a large city I go to for other reason. B&N (if I'm not mistaken) will sell the Que in their store and I can buy there. Likewise I can ask my aunt who lives in the US to buy me a Que and send it that way. |

Of course, you could ask your aunt to buy you a Kindle and send it too. BOb |

Very true, but the Que is my top pick. Although here lately I've been reading about the Onyx Boox and although it does not have a large screen it is a pretty nice little device, and I know I can get it here in Canada. And from what I've seen it handles PDF very well and that's the format most of my textbooks are in.

Really? internationally too?
I was doing some reading and a major downfall is only a 4 day battery. Maybe the 8 inch will have better battery life. Last edited by Bittybye; 01-20-2010 at 01:31 PM. |

Thank you. EDIT: Sorry I should have been clear, I meant any idea when the better battery will be on the market. Last edited by Bittybye; 01-21-2010 at 06:40 AM. |

Me....again...sorry.
Still haven't gotten my hands on a ebook reader. The onyx boox 8 inch was my first choice but it seems that it might or might not even be released at all so I'm looking at some other options. The 9 inch is just too big. The Kobo...I know it's not even out and it's a 6 inch screen, but I was thinking it might not be a bad little thing to have until something better comes out and I can always give it to my mom after I'm done with it. It doesn't have half the features I want but what do you want for $150? The iRex DR800SG would be great but 4 things 1) I've asked, yet no one has told me if it supports HTML well. I think I might have heard about the HTML being extremely laggy, but I'm not sure. And 2) I hate how the SD card is by the battery, if it supported SDHC, sure, I'd just stick a 8GB SD card in there and forget it. 3) No place for the stylus, what idiot thought that was a good idea? 4) I thought it would be easy to get reader to Canada, just send it to my aunt and have her send it to be, but I just found out that the billing address has to be US too, and while I know my aunt would be willing to send it to me, there's no way she'd be willing to put it on her credit card, even knowing I'd pay it back. Are there any more suggestions out there? Please ![]() |

I have the Kindle 2 -- purchased Nov 22 I think -- and have been enjoying it in Toronto and in holiday in Mexico (twice!). There is no duty on the thing. It's $259 + shipping etc; call it US$300. The Canadian dollar at par ... well, that's $300.
The Kobo will be available Thursday for $170 including local taxes. It's not as full featured as the Kindle 2; but its cheaper, too. Or, just buy the iRex DR800SG at Best Buy in the US and pick it up there or drop ship it to a service that does that for it and have it mailed to you in Canada. I've never used them but there are firms like myus.com that handle everything. When you've just GOTTA have that special thing. To each his own -- and good luck to you in your quest! -- but sometimes it seems people make life way more complicated than it has to be. Last edited by SensualPoet; 04-26-2010 at 08:57 PM. |

The Kobo...other than the fat that is is a ebook reader is has none of the features I want. For Best Buy, you need an US billing to order. Thanks for the link, I never thought about buying though a 3rd party. Make things more complicated? That's me. It's taken me a long time to save up enough to buy whatever ereader I wanted, and I don't plan on buying 2 or 3 in my life, so I'm picky. Thanks for your help. |

Sorry if I sounded exasperated. If you do break down and buy something, ans if you try the 3rd party route (there are several, not just the one I mentioned), let us know how that works out. Cheers!

Just ask anyone who knows me. My poor mother has heard me complain about ebook readers for 2 years. First it was the Kindle, then the Sony PRS-600 then it was the Que, then it was the Onyx Boox, then the Kobo, then its the mythical 8 inch Onyx Boox, and last but not least the iRex DR800SG. |
