For what it's worth, at least some of those complaining about the iPad did in fact plan to purchase it initially, then were disappointed by its shortcomings and said why. And then others said that these are not shortcomings, and a discussion ensued. And this is generally how forums work. Again, if you don't like it, take your own advice and move on. Cheers. P.S. Some are oh so easily entertained....

But from what I've seen since, that's mostly stopped, so unless I missed something (haven't been around much since I decided not to buy one) I don't see it being a problem any more. Most of the "complaints" have been people like me or Sonist who want a tablet, were VERY excited about the iPad, but let down for various reasons after using it and have decided not to buy it. Granted, I'm not posting here much anymore as I have no intention to buy an iPad unless Apple makes big changes to their philosophy and puts a file system, drag and drop etc (which isn't going to happen)--and I do think the device area forums should be for owners to discuss their devices and answer questions for people interested in the device. But this is a good site for info, so I'll check in every once in a while and see what apps are rolling out, if they're fixing any of my gripes in OS updates or the 2nd gen ipad etc. But I haven't seen any outright trolling in a while--where as it was very annoying even to me the first couple of weeks after launch. I do get the annoyance from people expecting it to be a full Tablet PC and complaining that it isn't. But I think most of those have left. I don't want a tablet PC, I just need a file management system, and easier way to get documents on the device and accessible to every app that can use them etc. I'll always have a laptop, so I don't need my tablet to be a PC. And I think Sonist is the same on that front, since he's posting a lot about Android tablets which will also not be full PCs obviously. So I think most of the ongoing criticisms are pretty reasonable and not from trolls, or people wanting the iPad to be something it's not etc. as most of the criticisms I've seen lately are just minor tweaks--file system, bigger screen, less restrictive apps store review by apple etc. Last edited by dmaul1114; 04-26-2010 at 11:23 AM. |

![]() Its so boring these days seeing all the Fanboy vs. Hater discussion. I have my iPad since yesterday and to feed the haters: "no its not the holy grale and lack of flash support sucks" and for all the Fanboys "it is a cute, shiny piece of hightech i already loved before it was turned on" Why not letting people post why they don't like the iPad? For me it was interesting to see the last weeks what people like/dislike and make my own opinion. On the other hand it was also very interesting to see why people like the idea of the iPad and to read the advantages, It would really suck to make this opinion by reading a 100% fanboy forum so pls stop whining about the so called "haters". At least for me it was much more interesting to read both side of the stories then reading "fight the unholy and evil flash" threads ![]() I made my decision to get an iPad with reading both, the haters and the fanboys and i am happy that this forum i not 100% applemaniac Sorry for the OT ... back tho the Honda Civic pls

no. the outright trolling and bashing has gone down. but as houndx pointed out there doesn't seem to be a single thread where a few individuals don't pop in and feel the need to voice their same complaints about the ipad and how they won't buy one. a quick search shows 50 threads where one individual posts repeated remarks complaining about the same issues and why they were disappointed and are waiting for the holy tablet which will be the best thing in the world, until something better comes out.

dmaul1114, you're a reasonable individual, you posted up your disappointment, your hopes for the next iteration, and moved on. i guess that's the problem some people have, they can't move on. maybe it's some form of obsessive compulsive disorder, or maybe they're just whiners looking for attention. ![]() i did like trubu's idea. certainly would save a lot of time. don't even have to copy and paste the same rants over and over. set up sig once and done. i was trying to think up some catchy phrases for my .sig so i can go post over in the other forums.. what do people think of these..? eink, so much fun to read in the dark! kindle, read along with big brother (unless revoked)! sony, you can touch our screens, you just can't read them! |

I, for one, would enjoy a reasoned discussion on the device's shortcomings. But that discussion would certainly be disrupted by those who have an irrational dislike of it. The most common complaints from non owners are things that will be resolved when a jailbreak is available. Owners, however, could offer real insights about how the ipads, and tablets in general, could be improved.

One problem that I feel needs to be addressed is rotation. Autorotate looks cool when the device is being demoed but, in real use, I find that it's a feature I just end up having to work around. Most apps I either want to use in landscape or portrait, not both. So I end up keeping rotation locked to keep the screen from.flipping around constantly then turning it on to switch and then turning it right back off again. I'd really like to see the ability to set each app's orientation. |

Your analogy is not really accurate. Maybe this is closer: The Honda Civic is really a very nice vehicle, has some nice features, and gets great mileage. This price was a bit on the high side but not too bad. The reason I am passing on the Civic is because it does not come with a radio, air conditioning, or heater. I might be willing to work around these shortcomings if I could install aftermarket parts. However, the cars hardware is locked and I cannot install a radio, or A/C and heater. The car does get you from point A to point B with no problems, but having a radio and A/C and heater are just must have items for me. I know many will think these are optional components and will be perfectly fine without them. I am waiting for a car with some of the same features as the Civic but with all of the missing must-have items.
