I have something similar with my business that I have to fill two declarations of taxes every 3 months. One federal(Canada) and one provincial(Québec).
They declare what I've sold and the taxes I've collected for those sales minus the taxes I've paid for brute material purchases and office supplies and investment.

For what I understand of these evil things, if she gets a refund is a good thing for her pockets, but not such a good thing for her business. It means that she sold less than what she bought. Unless, like many of my compatriots, she sells under the counter, to escape income tax.

The secret to getting refunds is to invest in the company.Growth is encouraged by most governments. It's facilitated when you buy new machinery, tooling, computers etc.

My theory is that they are so good and there are so many around that beauty is not considered a qualifying attribute, the standard being so high. In my country, the basic model is barely 5' tall with mustache included, so that the pretty ones have a tendency to play hard to get. In Quebec they play hard or easy to get according to their personal inclination. That alone, makes it so much nicer to run after them.

I have a theory for that also. They get one, usually by singing the apple (being charming), after a little time she realizes that the guy is just words and no real stuff so they say bye bye baby, I want to be alone for a while and think things over and don't call me, I'll call you. And he starts all over again (there is always mama to go back to).

Your case is quite typical and confirms my theory. She got right away the idea of your qualities, and she acted differently from the gals of your Italian friends.
