I bought a kindle from Amazon and absolutely love it. However being the big reader I am I quickly got disgruntled about how many kindle books weren't available for sale to Australian kindles. Easily fixed. I updated my Amazon account and changed my address to Disneyland. My credit card details remained the same - I still use my Australian credit card to purchase. I can now buy ALL the kindle books on the Amazon site and even save $2 on each one. If any one wants to write to me my address is: 1150 Magic Way, Anaheim, CA 92802. (smiles). |

Others have reported getting notices from Amazon that it appears their specified country doesn't match their actual location. BOb

Hi guys, I have a question about using the American kindle in Australia. I know i need a separate account, gift vouchers and so on (http://www.nerdgirl.com/amazon-kindl...de-of-the-us-0) however why exactly will the wireless not work? The amazon American kindle page mentions that the American edition will work in over 100 countries and there is a $2 fee for each download outside of America. If for some reason Amazon stopped me using the American bookstore could i just then register the American kindle to my Australian Amazon account and keep using the American kindle? If you are talking about the "i" (international) version. Then the wireless should work there... assuming it is a supported country. Contracts are needed between Amazon and the phone provider. BOb

http://www.amazon.com/Kindle-Wireles...pf_rd_i=507846 In the Amazon description it says it works in over 100 countries and if you click the coverage map there is coverage in Australia however when i read people saying that you need two accounts and use gift vouchers i cannot quite see why i would need to go to that trouble. According to wikipedia "On October 22, Amazon lowered the price on the international version to $259 from $279 and ceased selling new versions of the U.S.-only model" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amazon_Kindle

I didn't reply to the email (I figured a photo of me wearing mickey mouse ears wouldn't cut it as proof of my US residency), lay low for a couple of days, and am now downloading books again apparently with impunity. So, so far so good. Mind you, the last time I said that...........argh!

I used a gift certificate to start with, and I wonder if that establishes a relationship? After a few purchases I simply use the Aus credit card. And no dreaded email, yet. I do however have a verifiable (real) US address. I just dont live there. At the moment. Did you see the article in the Australian last week where the writers were doing exactly this? |

Thank you so much for the quick reply. I really appreciate it. So the key is to do it from the beginning... I guess. I did not see the article - will try to see if it is online.

 Help!

I set up the gift card as per nerdgirl's instructions. I know this is a stupid question but how do you pay for the books using the gift card? Do you order books from your gmail account or from your kindle?

This is what I have done since October. I have always ordered the books from the website, and not the kindle. The gift card should be applied to your account before you order the books. Download the books to the PC, then across to the kindle.Gift cards are always used before your credit card.
