Still reading The Count of Monte Cristo... it seemed to slow down... but it is picking up again. I think the Count is going to bring the hammer down soon.

Next... So many people are saying great things about "The Girl..." books I am just going to have to check them out. Although, still got Mistborn book 2 and 1st To Die... samples. I've also wanted to check out The Graveyard Book too.

So many books, so little time.

Again, a long time since I read it, but I recall enjoying that, with Straub tempering King's sometimes excesses (note, I like both authors). I would say/recall that Straub is more adult to King's child. I don't mean that King is "childish"...more that his stories are "childlike", and reach into our young fears, while Straub reaches at our adult fears. But both do them through adults and children.

But, it's been a long time...

Just a child.

I've decided that turning 40 is the ideal age to be as true to myself as I possibly can, however, erm, eccentric that may make me seem This means I can carry on acting in a way that I might once have described as youthful exuberance, and also continue to be a grumpy old git when I feel like it. And in addition, it means I really wind up those people at work who are dreading turning 40 (or even 30)

I'm still going slow on Wallace's '...Hideous Men', but no fault of the book. I could read it again from the start (and, in fact, have read a couple of the stories from the start, as memory needs jogging after a break).

Cheers,
Marc

I agree completely. Reading King, particularly his short stories, is like listening to scary stories around a campfire. Straub is the kind of writer you read while sitting in a good leather chair, snifter of brandy in hand. Both excellent writers but worlds apart. As to "the Talisman", I thought it was very good, but the sequel, "Black House" is even better.

Watch out for "The Girl...". When it catches you, and after the first 300 pages or so it does, you'll be ... entrapped, and than you will long for more, but there isn't any.

A trente ans la famme est belle.
Après, ça dépend d'elle.

In your case, the exception that confirms the rule, 40.

Congratulations!

Some of us would love to be 40. 40 was 12 and a half years ago.

And for some of us 40 was more than 20 years ago. But then it's all just numbers...

I have a nice thing to tell you, dear Florence. It is not true that you are an Unknown Genius.

I like your poule. I find it genial. There you go.
